I'm not sure if this should be here or in the guild forum. Well... if it isn't I'm sure it'll be moved.
Anyway, the problem I've been having is a certain member of my guild who has been hanging around for a long time. I didn't invite him in, I think it might have been my officer... but anyway. A while back a player came to me with an allegation over the guild member scamming items off people. Because they didn't have any proof and my guild and I couldn't dig up any evidence apart from hearsay, we decided to give the member in question the benefit of the doubt.
Time passes, and I finally get around to hanging out with the guy in the Tara festival and I must admit I've never really done much with the player before besides talk with him over guild chat.
Turns out, in person, playing games and interacting with other players... the guild member is a gigantic douche, demanding other people playing the hammer game lose for him, throwing hissy fits when he loses, and even trying to weasel rare items off people for mediocre ones, and so on and so forth.
I really, really want to kick this person out of my guild. I don't want my guild's name to be associated with behavior like that, but can I really boot somebody over a reason as flimy as 'you're a dick please piss off?'
Maybe I'm just too softhearted. Advice please?

If you're the guild leader, what you say goes. If you don't like members, its fine to kick them out.
That said, it's probably better to discuss this with other people in your guild (senior members?) if you want more relevant advice.

I suppose. I just don't want it to seem like I'm booting somebody out over something like a whim, or a rumor.

Put the kid on probation. Say, if you act like such-and-such and I keep hearing such-and-such about you, you're not welcome in my guild. And let him know he's welcome to leave anytime.

haha I have that softheart problem all the time. Talk to ur top members. If they all agree just kick him. Loose all contact with him, he'll note rage you a bit but he'll be over it in a week. Just make sure no other guildie is really close with him.

I've seen huge issues over people being dicks in Silent, and yes,
it's perfectly legit to kick him out just for being a douche.
You might want to discuss this with other guild members but I'll just say that for now.
If you have any guild members who actually liked him, then you might have a problem
when you kick this guy out. He doesn't seem too likable though.

Well if you see him as a douche, give him the boot. Seems as if you've seen him, and if he acts like that around his guild leader, he deserves to be booted.

Well what my previous guild did was hold a vote in a private group chat. There was a member that was begging for stuff and being annoying in guild chat. I didn't pay much attention to him but it bothered the others, so we had a vote and he was kicked out.
I'd have kicked him if I was you, but I can't stand people like that lol

Thanks for your advice everyone. I'll go ask the senior members what they think. We'll vote or something.
Be back with the results later.

Please answer these questions..
Is he giving a bad name to the guild? If yes, remove.
(Many people usually judge a guild based on their experience after meeting one of their member, even tho this is very judgemental... "So and so meet this person and he's a noob, therefore the guild is noob").
Is he starting problems, conflicts, endless stupid arguments with other guild members during guild runs or in guild chat? If yes, remove. This behavior is disrupting the guild and more problems will arise if you let it sit. Guilds with people like these usually die. If the person starts stupid arguments, it can lead to other members leaving your guild :/
Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.
If you're not sure you want to remove this person, talk to other members, talk to your officer. Take a guild vote.
If you really don't want to kick, you can try talking to him, either in private or discuss it in guild chat about his negative behavior and how it's affecting the guild as a whole. Maybe he'll change, who knows, but it's worth the shot.

I could type pages on problems like this, but it all comes down to the same thing.
Kick him, don't lose sleep over it.
Tell him his behaviour isn't up to your standards and it helps if you have the screenshots to prove it.

Birds of a feather flock together.
But in all seriousness, judging a guild based on a member is reasonable. Even if your guild has nice helpful people in it, allowing a selfish scammer to be a member is basically saying "
we're okay with this person being a big jerk." If you're not okay with people behaving a certain way, why would you want/let them in your guild?
Guild image is very important. Usually people won't make their judgement based completely off one single member, but it's still better to have none at all. First impressions usually stick, and just two or three bad experiences is enough to get you permanently labeled in the eyes of an outsider. IMO, you don't need to discuss it with other members since you have a perfectly legitimate reason, but being democratic about it doesn't hurt (unless they rule in favor of keeping him despite his attitude).

You need a backbone if your going to run a guild. I ran a guild for a while and decided I didn't like kicking people and making them hate me. So I turned it over to my officer and left. Now I'm just a happy guild member who doesn't have that kind of headache.
