Staff Evie is actually easier imo.
Really? I find Kai a lot easier because of all the invincibility and general flexibility. If he stacked defense I could imagine him having the best survivability in the game other than maybe like, Karok, with minimal attack lost. And the survivability isn't too big of a deal, just takes adjustment as with all new characters. The worst problem I see with Kai right now is that his controls occasionally fuck up and he dodges in a direction he shouldn't, but that could just be on my end.

Pretty sure its a general bug, just about every Kai I've met seems to have had at least one issue where their dodge went the wrong direction. The invinc frames makes it slightly not as bad, but it's obviously still as huge a problem when you find yourself dodging into lio during his charge attack, etc.

Reposting this from the Kai discussion thread.
Quote from AFKalmighty on VHQ:
I’m hearing in the NA community that there is some concern that Kai will be too weak when he gets nerfed with the Ignition patch when it hits NA.
So I was like [insert 'not-sure-if-serious' pic here]
So here is a screenshot of a Keaghan run I did with my 13k Kai:
You can see here that I did 4.5% less damage than the 19k lv 39 DK staff and also beat a another staff and a hammer with EP 9.5 weapons. Before you ask.
- I asked around again on Keaghan’s defense and I heard that the damage limit for his second phase is around 16-17k. Besides, there’s also the 300 extra damage that ignores the limit plus other benefits of high stats. [look at all that attack speed and crit]
- Yes this is a battle that favors Kai’s long range even more than others but is also so for staff albeit being a smaller advantage.
- The battle ended before 10 minutes has passed from entering the map so that means none of the highly geared members were not pulling their weight.
- And since this run was done today, yes this is after the ignition ’nerf’.
What has changed after ignition is that now you actually have to understand Kai’s playstyle to be efficient and just mindless spam firing will no longer guarantee you first place in damage.
Before Ignition Kai used to have superior damage even in mindless DPS situations [glas ballistas anyone?] and this damage was barely hindered in other combat situations due to his range and firing-based damage mechanism [in comparison to a smash combo mechanism].
After Ignition Kai’s damage is now evened out in mindless DPS situations but since his range and firing mechanism still stands he is still OP in proper combat situations. It’s just that now some level of skill aptitude is required to benefit from this OPness.

Well, I can also confirm that Kai can do some pretty crazy damage, at least on Keaghan. I used to be doing really well consistently (1st almost everyday) and now, as soon as a good Kai comes in with 14K-ish attack, I tend to lose by a good bit... one day I actually got 3rd behind two Kais, with only 22% damage where the person in first had 27%. This might not sound like a big deal, but I actually played better in that game than I did in some of the 40-60% games before Kai was released, and those were occasionally against people with rather high end 60/+10 or higher 70 staves.
Basically, anyone who currently "hates" Evie, is going to hate Kai 10 times as much once some people get the hang of him. I can't honestly say what he can and cannot do, because I don't know, but I can at least say he can probably do just about everything Evie can, but better. We can still heal/revive/summon golems/pistols/etc though, so there's always that utility value. Just keep in mind that this happened while I was using those pistols and everything I had to help me.

I personally find Kai a bit easier to play as well, since he can actually strafe while firing. It's probably just a gameplay adjustment I need to make with Staff Evie and arrow hopping though.
It's also probably worth noting that Kai still has access to rapid fire glitches which skyrocket his already good DPS. Without these glitches, he'd be much more in line with the other characters. Currently with the glitches he's almost on par with Spear Lann in terms of DPS, and it's still around post ignition since I'm pretty sure afk uses it in some of the Crescent Island videos.
Dodge Grapple's really low cooldown is also something that gives Kai a huge advantage, as it has so many interesting uses that can circumvent a lot of bad situations (i.e. Elchulus' "carpet bombing" can be completely avoided with a well timed dodge grapple).
It's probably not fair to use glitches in these sort of analysis though, as it's not intended for you to be able to fire off arrows that quickly. He's still going to be good mind you, as his damage output is still good (but not Spear Lann good). Currently most Kais are still pretty bad though.

What happened, happened with two people who weren't rapidfire glitching. At least one of them wasn't, didn't pay much attention to the other. They were both good players who were used to Kai, though.
