  But in all seriousness you'd be crazy not to upgrade a bison if you go solder. Each shot does 30~45 damage disregarding distance and can pierce enemies. It's almost hax if you get a medic to kritz you.

  Piercing is nice, yes. It's not just the Bison; upgrading the Minigun to have piercing effects really does help.
  
  Buff Banner is probably a must for any Soldier. It even affects Enginer's sentries!

  I think you should try the bison before you dismiss it.
  
  Fully upgrade it, it rapid fires, crits nice, reloads fast, And if you upgrade the passive Damage reductions, you're pretty much a one man army.
