Anyway, I suppose double counter might have some use at Elchulus? In terms of damage no, not really, but it's a good tool for breakoff.
Well, I know the speed boost is pretty significant. I'm sitting somewhere around 38 speed with my sword, so it should be fun to see how it goes.
And my issue with using it for breakoffs is that you'll need to space yourself far ahead of where Elchulus is in order to connect the counter onto the spines. I guess it'd be usable though.

Anyways, I have much more success with a Small Shield since PG -> Butterfly is amazing for damage output. In general Small Shield HS is more effective as Elchulus moves insanely far with his smashes, so you actually stick to him pretty well due to it. HS counter isn't as effective to stick onto him as just running out of the animation is just as fast.
It just takes a bit of positioning, that's all.
Thanks. We don't have Altar yet on EU, I think it should unlock with the next update since we have Elchulus, I'll try to get an Altar, hope it's not as rare as tear. The tears go for 80kk on EU, so I can still selll it if I wanted.
I tend to use sword on Elchulus since I had the hard time getting out of an animation (and I think NA has a cancel system which we lack), but now that I know his pattern I might try hammer again. I use blossom and sword since I like the speed and I tend to get stuck in animations for some reason, might be because I spam my keys too much or because we can't cancel.

Altar is the one that uses Elchulus' Tear, Godwing is the one that uses a single Giblet Pouch. That's the stat comparison. On NA that's 400m versus 30m, so it's a big deal in terms of price as well.
Still: I have no idea on the specifics of how XE plays, but that's just my take on how it plays in NA.

I went back to using small shield again now that I farm hero for that maelostrm scroll thingy. I have a +10 Babel and still at 11k ATK. Those 3 mini bosses before Blood prince are so fast, I can't get a single smash in (maybe Petal Toss, but I haven't skilled it up yet, not sure if it's any good). Counterattack is so much nicer and I knock them down a lot. Elchulus is fast too but nowhere near as fast as Blood Prince hero. I never appreciated the value of counterattack until I started doing hero, stuff I can't do with Giant shield because of the speed of the mob becomes doable with small shield and counter.

Petal Toss is amazing, get it to at least Rank 9. I believe spamming Petal Toss nonstop gets you better DPS than Blossom Blow, at least before S2. It's mainly since despite swords being "fast", there are a ton of windows where Amaranth is just too slow to use (and Ivy Sweep tends not to be optimal along with being slow).
Edit: Pre-ignition percentiles! Petal Toss 2 hits is 0.230 combined, Ivy Sweep 3 hits is 0.313, Amaranth is 0.274 (with max ranks calculated in).
Usually you only get normal smashes off on distracted bosses who are aggroing someone else. That or during long moves (i.e. Elchulus tail swipes).
Also there isn't a reason to stick to one type of shield, pick the one that's best suited for the boss. Most bosses before the later half of Hoarfrost Depths favour the Small Shield due to abundant normal attacks. However most later bosses (namely raids) rarely use their normals, and they take forever to actually get stunned unless there's a gimmick to stun them. It's why having r9 Guard for the effect is important (as afk sometimes uses in the video, although he wastes a lot of stamina on counters).
