It's easily justifiable depending on the person.

I've considered getting a laptop just so I can let it run in a corner all day and do stuff for me. A desktop would take up way more space and power.

I'm assuming everyone who wants a laptop is putting extra monetary value on portability and size. Even if they just want to play video games.
