Sounds interesting.
As for the risk of not getting any money in the case that someone loses, I don't see the big deal. It's the same risk you take entering any other contest.
As for pricing, everyone has different prices im sure. Depends on what you want.

Im not 100% sure what made her stop but if I was in her position, taking continuous requests for Mabinogi fanart, I would probably get tired of it and move on.
That's why I took a break from mabi commissions, but my reg commissions are always up. Maybe I should start charging NX lol

I think the Paypal Donation would work safer than accepting NX codes 8D
Probably the only time I find drawing without any compensation is if the topic/idea/mood sounds very good. Or sometimes, in my most case, try something I've never done and I would love to draw o3o

There, artists. Now all you have to do is be better than me. :D

I'd probably charge over 100 dollars for a full body piece. >_>
40-60 for a detailed bust, 25 for a detailed chibi, 10 for a less detailed chibi. All of these in full color.

What some comissioners don't always realize is the amount of effort and hours that can be put into a single piece of artwork. Drawing is just like any other work skill and a quality piece of art can take anywhere between an hour or twelve hours depending on the level of detail involved. Then it's all a matter of valuing the artist's time depending on their level of skill/talent/what they're willing to draw for you.
I remember a few years ago when my husband's art commissions were the only thing putting food on the table. That was a scary time. o_o;
While this might be a fun idea for a contest you might get more amateur artists (like me heh heh) doing little doodles instead of full blown art, especially when many good artists can just pick up commissions for guaranteed cash reward.

Hmm got a sense of what I need to do then. Well consider the contest idea scrapped! Now to figure out what exactly I want done o-o

Yeah...The thing about full-blown commissions is they take a good while.
Getting paid say....50 dollars for a full-body piece is like getting paid around 30% of the minimum hourly wage. Most artist should be making a few hundred dollars weekly if they're working for a studio, even as freelance.

And it's always when someone asks for my prices when I realize I'm severely under priced. But when I give a more accurate offer they always scrap their order.

I'd rather them cancel than me work for that little. Otherwise people will start thinking they can get me to do things cheap. NOPE.

Back when I was desperate enough to ignore how NOT commission-quality my work was, I was charging $8 for plain lineart and $18 for full on finished work for a single character. Now, granted, "finished" was really, really relative to my skill level. Still, I was getting handfuls of commissions at least.
Of course, I was working in a very specific subgroup of people, being a pandery circle artist, so that's probably the only reason why anyone paid at all. And yet at the same time, guys with much higher skill levels in the same community will charge what [S]Elen/Adel.[/S] Murasaki charges (an actual, realistic amount), and I'll hear nothing but whining about it in various chans and groups.
Of course, they also get tons of commissions so I guess what I'm saying here is uhh find someone with an Adrianblade fetish if you wanna save money? :point:

I agree, but i tend to get the "dont think so highly of yourself/you weren't that good anyway" kind of douchehoes whenever it happens. It's very aggravating lmao

IF they didn't think you were good why the hell would they bother? xD Stupids.
I know of people that charge $300 for full bodies and while I'm not at that level yet it does give me something to strive for. They charge that much because they but a lot of time and effort into things, and I do too, but I can't charge what they charge and deliver something that isn't on their level. I'm not going to be drawing for someone at 4 dollars an hour either, though.

The problem I see is what some people consider "full body" also. I thought it would be a simple matter but shows you how much I knew to begin with! Back in high school I did things here and there and only know I realize how...easy those are compared to what I would want done. My apologies to you all =/

Well, when I say full body I mean, the entire body from head to toe, with none of the parts cut off (unless, you know, they want me to draw an amputee).

Amputees are 20% off.
