Warranty shouldn't even be a selling point for a product unless you're a klutz and you've had a history with busting computers.
that would be me
I rather pay $120 more just in case rather than having to buy a new laptop entirely because I'm an irresponsible moron
if you decide to buy an alienware anyway, enjoy your overpriced pretty laptop that they suckered you into.
you said you wanted to save money, and there are so many alternatives for a hell of a lot less than that or if you do want to pay that much you could get something a lot better.
I know plenty of people who buy alienware just to say they have it, but at the end of the day it all comes down to the fact that you got ripped off after being advised not to buy one.
Why not just buy a flashy case for $30?

I'm not an expert on computers by a long shot, lol. Look for a decent bit of ram, go for at least i5, imo, no intel graphics cards, get dedicated video memory. Most computers come with this in the 700 range now anyway..
Also don't search "gaming computer". If you put gaming on it it also adds moola no matter the specs.
Okay, so, we got an Acer laptop first. It was from like futureshop or bestbuy or something or other. My dad was using it. A while after that the keyboard started having major issues. Some keys stopped working entirely. For example sometimes the L key wouldn't have any effect. Or space bar. That was the worst. We tried to return it but they wouldn't let us (14 day return policy etc), and my dad just bought an external keyboard and dealt with it. That's not a big thing though. We figured it was a one time thing.
Next we got an Acer monitor. It was a fabulous deal, from amazon (I think..?), and it worked fine. Then one day a few months after we got it it just died. Like, it wasn't a connection issue, or a power issue, I think, but it would just shut down randomly.
After that (you'd think we'd learn our lesson at this point), we got an Acer desktop, which had these nice blue LED lights and it was pretty small so it fit on my dad's desk. It had random shut down issues and restart issues. Windows update and anything like that were disabled (at least auto restarts were). He'd turn it off or hibernate it for the night and come back in the morning and it would've been running for hours already. No updates. And then it started shutting down randomly with no errors, and no "improper shutdown" screen after.
Afffftterrrrr that. We got another Acer monitor and my dad's still using it, but it has a nasty habit of going black. Every couple of minutes it would turn black for a couple of seconds and go back to normal.
Anyway we called various companies for customer support. Amazon was nice. They couldn't fix the problem but we could get an exchange or a return or whatever. Futureshop and Best buy were pricks as usual. They told us to call Acer directly, and we did, and we got shit advice that was no help at all. They spun us in circles, essentially.
I used to always find Acer computers on my random searches because they had the best specs for each price range, at least on paper, but I've had way too many issues with them and so has my dad.
And that's why we're completely finished with Acer.
I mean if you want to save money Acer will save you a lot but I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Now I'm having mixed thougts, since I was reading Newegg's feedback on this certain aspire laptop.

I haggled and now I'm buying it for 800 dollars. xD With no drawbacks either. Yay.

^this lol
just because it says "gaming computer" doesn't mean you should just eat up whatever they say about it.

Kitae, look at the first page and click on the link he posted. The specs are right there. Those specs aren't atrocious for what you're getting at all. That's practically the best you can get for around $800.

Except its not.
Its super gimped. Look at it again. It does have a satisfactory cpu and gpu, but for it to perform you're going to want to upgrade at least 125 dollars worth, which is why I'm asking which upgrades she's done before her discount to 800 dollars, because the end price by the store's page should be 1125.
I still can't get over the 720p resolution screen. This isn't windows 98. Its supposed to be a laptop, not a netbook.

Except Vindictus isn't that hard to run. If you really want to run Vindictus, you can go cheaper on a laptop.

I'm not saying "don't buy it", I'm saying what are the final specs on it?
At 800 dollars its no longer the "rip off" that I said it is, but at the same time there are a few upgrades you absolutely want as a core essential part of the laptop.

Yeah, I'm bothered by the 720p screen myself honestly. Though, ideally with Alienware, you shouldn't really upgrade stuff because they charge a premium for Ram and the HDD. You'd be better off buying them seperately and installing it yourself.

which, judging by OP's knowledge of computers in this thread, they won't do.

Personally, I'd stay as far away from Alienware as possible.
I'd suggest Asus, or maybe Lenovo.
I have a mid/low-end Asus desktop. Got it for cheap-ish, and it's been able to handle every high-end game I've thrown at it on mid/high settings with ease. I also have a Lenovo laptop, which I'm just about equally satisfied with (although I had to go through customer service a while because I somehow got defective hardware twice in a row, as opposed to my sister who got a perfectly fine one).

As far as the 14 inch category goes, I don't think there's much that beats an Mx14 for that price anyway. . .now if we go to 15.6 inch, then there's definitely other options. Though, you may as well classify an Mx14 as a 15.6 inch, because that's how big the damn thing is, with a 14 inch screen xD.

I think he got a pretty OK deal for $800. I wouldn't want a 720p screen either, but for a 14"er it's not too bad. Let the dude enjoy his purchase, lol.
