Quote from Froglord;953156:
And people say "oh... they're not true muslims, real muslims love peace"
Yet there are a billion freakin' barbaric savage terrorists who make up a vast majority of that religion as we see on a day-to-day basis.
This is disgusting. How easily we forget that the dark actions of humanity transcend ANY arbitrary line -- religion, gender, race, country and so on. Do we so easily forget the Crusades, for example, or the entirety of imperialism? That there are "freakin' barbaric savage terrorists" exist absolutely everywhere and aren't just in the dog-whistled lines of "THOSE people"? Did you even read a story of domestic terrorism that occurred less than a month ago of a white supremacist gunning down people at a Sikh temple just because of their faith (which he also got wrong -- he thought they were Muslims). And the fact that MANY instances of this same thing have recurred again and again in human history ever since the first caveman realized he could use fire as easily as warfare as he could for light and food.
Nevermind the people in the United States such as Terry Jones that pour dollars into sustaining conflicts just like this because they literally believe in the Rapture, and want to support whatever side will hasten it on earth. Nevermind people such as Westboro Baptist Church protesting at funerals, which should be times of reflection and respect, because of anti-gay or anti-whateverIthinktoday protests. Nevermind people who don't mind never letting other people basic human rights -- people who don't let their children into hospitals because they think God will cure it, people who would rather someone be emotionally and perhaps even physically damaged for life rather than have an abortion because it's "against the Bible", people who always think women are the lesser race because a two thousand year old creation myth said a deity created the mother of humanity from the rib of her husband. And I could go on and on, just within radical Christian thought within the US. That's not even all, too.
If you were going for a "all religions" thing then you did a hell of a job opening with just "haha muslims" and the examples thereof without getting into the really nasty shit that even just one single, insular, entrenched fundamentalist school of Christian thought in our own country can do and has done.
By the way, this story was debunked on a major cable network yesterday (I want to say CNN?) but I can't even find anyone that's written about it yet. One reporter had gone to the hospital that this person was reportedly transferred to, after perusing the original article that only had two vague sentences to support their conclusion, and asked for the records of the day this would have happened. They looked at them, interviewed the head of the hospital, and no one had came in with complications from smoke inhalation.
edit: Huh, there's two pages now and I missed the next post, but yeah, Cynic and Osay are right and I read your initial post pretty harshly because it seemed so blinkered and I run into this sentiment all the time. I guess we're saying the same thing now though.
