My college serves us our food per order. The only thing that may have sat there for awhile was some fries or entree's, but that's to be expected. Things from the grill are always made fresh and to order.

My school's never had a cafeteria. We do have some days where pizza/ hot dogs/ taco-in-a-bag are being sold, but I never get those. They don't fill me up any! I'd need to have 4 pizza slices to get somewhat full!
I usually pack 2-3 sandwiches (meat + cheese + other stuff/ Leftover hamburger-helper or spaghetti/ soup /stew /whatever sometimes fills the place of sandwiches), a bunch of fruits, munchies (like chips or a bunch of baby carrots), and some hot chocolate/ hot tea. Sometimes I have some cake or pasteries on top of all of that.
I eat that all during the two breaks and lunch, and I'm famished when I get home. My brain craps out if I haven't eaten within the last hour/ half-hour... :scare:

We had a lot of options when I went to vocational school, and it was decent. Cheeseburgers, chicken, salads, wraps, pizza, pasta... and there were always a lot of sides. I did prefer bringing my own food to cook in my lab, though, because it was fairly expesive in the dining hall.
Elementary and middle school were the pre-prepared tray lunches like most are. Public high school had options like vocational did, but not as many and it was poor quality.

I'm in college now and we basically buy whatever we want to eat outside or at the campus cafe. When I was in high school, however, it's pretty much cheeseburger and pizza every day.

Ironic how back in Korea, cheeseburgers and pizzas were the sin junk food that is so bad for you that you must never eat it, and then in America you get it every lunch.

We're trying to be cheap, okay?

NYC public school lunches are basically a choice between:
Cold -
A PBJ sandwich
Coldcut sandwiches (High School for me at least)
Hot Lunch:
Depends on the day, there's some really rectangular pizza that is literally blanketed in oil
Rare triangle slice of pizza
Bony-ish chicken breast
Hamburger (it is really gross when you open it up to put ketchup in, ... remembering it... OH MY GOD @_@)
Rare mozzarella sticks
Veggies: usually something I don't eat so I don't remember
Drink Choices:
Milk
2% Milk
Chocolate Milk
This is as far as I can remember for K-12 anyway
Fruits vary by day, usually orange or pear or preserved apples.

Alright let's see what I remember.
k-5: They served us in foam trays, mostly cuz it was cheaper and easier to get rid of. Most of the time, they served the same things that 6-12 got served. Except they fed us grapefruit and these grape icepops. The grapefruit was boss.
6-8: Nothing special. Other than cheese curd and crackers and the occasional chicken wings (OMG I MISS THEM), nothing special.
9-12: The best thing was the chicken fingers. If that wasn't on the menu, I was getting salad.

In Australia, we don't really have the whole "cafeteria" thing (we call them by a different name xD). Usually byo, packed lunch or whatever. There is the option to buy from the school cafeteria, but most choose to bring their own.
Though this is from Primary School and throughout High School, not sure what Uni is like. Probably the same as US Uni's where students just buy it off or on-campus.
This was probably the longest post in the thread LOL
Note: This is from personal experience, other schools here might do things differently. Private Schools for example.
