As I did back on MabiGuru, I'll simply be posting a link so as to ensure that I don't forget to update multiple guides on multiple websites. Makes things easier on my end.
Trigger's Guide to Magic - Home
Once again, read and be educated, and please remember -- this is not meant to babysit you! If you let the guide do all your thinking for you, you will fail. You must think for yourself.

>.< I love your guide..and I am too a mage..but erm..I made the horrible mistake of making a spirit ice wand..so er..keep or no keep? : X and YES Mana..is precious..those mana pots are way too costly for me, and currently I am stuck in G11 Buchanan inside the Castle mission..where as a "mage" I completely fail at all the multi aggro and hits from the adv mission. Any advice for me? I probably will need it..

Oh how I love you for adding a formulas page.
Your guide is what inspired me to create a Mage way back in the day, hence why (after using my Ex girlfriend's -cough-) I created my own.
Props to you m'friend.

I love your guide, even if you did diss ice spear a bit much. I just decided to make my useless ttl 15 elf into a mage and he's coming along well. With the rank 9 ice then switch to lightning. I do feel that you should've pointed out ice spear is one of the best things an ELF can get though. Thunders nice and all but it can't infinately freeze dungeon rooms until everything is dead like Ice spear... well that's my rant. Nice guide.

I agreed with you... your guide is nice, Trigger.. but I kinda feel like it's little biased on some things...
And I remember when you went all hardcore and went against Healers, and you even made a guide against the Healers and healing.

Well like he said in the first place guys, its meant to guide you and help you shape your way...your always free to do what you want in the end or take a little detour at certian point in the guide, be that either for going all the way on the ice spear like some or healing for others, the guide still recommends you to rank up heal for stats so its not like u would miss it...just that mages aren't meant to just be healing in which I kind of agree...then again I'm a newbie so anyways, its just a guide, you use it to get an idea but in the end its up to you what parts you follow and what parts not :thumb:
Edit: Oh sorry didn't notice the last post's date LOL necro post my bad

Guides really should be immune to the "necro" rule. They're intended to be permanent and there is little reason not to post in them after long periods of time. Especially if new info comes out after the guide is written.
Thunder is easier to get than ice spear. Therefore even if ice spear is equal to thunder, thunder is better to start off with for a newbie mage. Even if they are capable of dishing out similar damage, ice spear drains mana much faster (unless you're an elf, which Trigger's guide specifically mentions).
If you're a mage then you'll be spending your mana on killing things. If you heal people that takes away from your fuel. Unless you're in situations like secret shadow missions where potion use might be a bad thing, healing doesn't serve any purpose that using potions wouldn't do more readily. Therefore it is a waste of a valuable resource, mana, to go around healing people if you're a mage. Warriors/archers/alchemists that don't typically use their mana much anyway get much more value out of the spell because they have an abundance of MP.

Great guide. I quote sections of it all the time on my guild's website.

Realizing i'm necro'ing a dead guide, but this probably needs to be discussed...
Now that Trigger's taken his guide down, what do we do now? I've been Googling to see if a semi-updated version was left lying around, but i've only found the version that was made in '09.
Because, silly us, all we ever told people was "READ TRIGGER'S GUIDE HERE: -LINK-", instead of posting excerpts.
It seems like Trigger was really -the- authority of Magic on Mabinogi, or at least, the only one who made a guide. There are guides out there, but none quite as nice as Trigger's.
So what do we do?

I know, i wish he left at least an old version, perhaps had someone take it over or something. I could give it a try but i really am not an expert on magic, and am not in a guide writing mood. Plus im horrible with the mathy parts of games, damage formulas and stuff like that dont exist in my mind.

I don't want to try to be rude or anything.. but I wouldn't recommend using Trigger's guide since it's little biased.
But I could try to make a guide on magic if people really want a magic guide.

Meh, doesn't really matter since the guide is gone now.
I'm not saying we need another guide right now, but if I was a complete newbie to the game i'd be a bit lost.
