makes as much sense as people selling wooden planks for 1k each when you can buy 5 from the general store for 500

No, it's actually that easy to make money and I'd buy your potions if I was lazy. It's just way slower to do things like that because in order to see the profits, you have to sell the stuff. And in order to sell 100 potions for 200K total profit, you might be waiting an hour or two (or longer if you get undercut, forcing you to relist them anyway). So it's not really recommended after you get a decent sum of money as you'd just be wasting your time. If you want to make some decent money before S2 without having much, make Thor Belts.
This game has individuals shifting around tens to hundreds of millions daily, they don't have time to walk over to a store to save 5K on a potion pack.
The primary issue with making money this way will always be that there aren't nearly enough buyers to buy most things in bulk. It took me two weeks to sell 3,000 ore. Ore and stones are some of the fastest selling things out there, but also super dangerous if you don't know what you're doing or get unlucky. They can drop to 20% of their price overnight from a hacking outbreak or other major event.

Underpricing is common these days, people are always shifting the prices in order to make them work. They don't want to wait for things to sell, they want them to sell now, so naturally, you have to reprice once the underpricers start their business. It's cruel and makes things unfair, but that's business. Same with gas and groceries and cars. Same with anything around this world.

Yes but in the real world it doesnt happen every milisecond, and people are more prone to buy by brand rather than price

It actually happens even faster in the real world, just not so much with consumer products but instead with things like stocks.
Undercutting is not always a big deal. If you're selling things that are typically sold in bulk (such as potions), getting undercut by someone selling 8 or 10 or even as much as 100 doesn't mean it's always worth relisting. The biggest risk with that is someone with a lot of market power undercutting that person (and thus you) by listing like 500+ of an item cheaper, because at that point people will either never get to yours before your listing expires or it'll take forever and all of them probably won't sell.
If a person is exceptionally attentive and you don't need to be selling right this second, sometimes it's best to just not sell that day. If you find you keep relisting and getting undercut every 10-30 minutes by someone who clearly has plenty, then at least only list 100-200 at a time or you're only screwing yourself.
And always remember, when dealing with at least 500-1,000 of an item, everything you do will have a drastic effect on the market. If it's inflating, it's going to stop inflating and might even start deflating until your stuff has sold out and begins inflating again. If you're on the buying side, people will force the price down almost instantly (or within 1-3 hours) even if you buy out the whole market.

This was mostly effective when Ignition first came out, but then people decided to catch on. I made about 5M, but then stopped because profit gained was becoming to low due to people lowering the price so much.
So I haven't bothered to even check back at the Marketplaces ...
I suppose with the rise of all these insta-level 50 players, people might not realize Brynn sells Fine HP potions now.

I didn't even know Brynn was selling new potions until a few days ago, I'd imagine a lot of players to have similar experiences and especially returning old players since Fine HP Potions were only from crafting before.
