Because it typically costs $50-80 per year for a good VPN which allows you to get everything you want (games, movies, whatever) and maintain privacy/encryption in public spaces whereas streaming services that offer even one of these (movies and TV shows with Netflix, for example) will cost quite a bit more. VPNs also allow you to do other neat stuff like get a new IP simply by using it, give websites an annoying time tracking you, see things you weren't "intended" to see in your country, etc. But that's really just an added bonus.
It's all around excellent.
Netflix total is 96 a year, isn't so bad because i can use it on my phone, TV, Other various devices. For under 100 a year i can stream with 0 effort on all of my devices without going through hoops of a VPN.
Also pirating on Consoles like the 360 for example will get your account and box permanently blacklisted with no redemption. I rather play games with my friends legitimately like you are supposed to than jump through hoops doing illegal things like stealing.
To me, pirating is like going to a store and stealing something with no intention of paying.
It is why good games aren't ever translated out to the west because people pirate the japanese games and translate and hand out the games with a half ass translation.
Piracy is why some western developers do not translate from eastern developers.
Monster Hunter's portable games come to mind.
Point being, there is absolutely no justification for stealing, unless you have a damn good selfless reason.
Also, privacy. Pfft, like how private facebook is or how private your phone lines are?
No such thing as true privacy, not like i care either, i have nothing to hide.
Sometimes people have to think about the future in order to see how their present actions are going to help them.
And also my opinions and bias on this piracy issue stems from not having access to a computer/internet when i was growing up, I paid (yes) or got as gifts all of my games and consoles and it really upset me that i would see people in my neighborhood steal when other people work for everything they have.
Not fair.
I would go into it more, but this isnt the place for it.
/looks like a wall of text on iPhone. Jesus never again.
