the x-axis? When ever i try, i get ERR: NO SIGN CHANGE. Which means to me that it can't find the zero because there is no difference in sign between the right and left bound.

you gotta drag the little cross to the other side first
like when you first click find, and you select a point, then you move it (left right arrows) and select another point.
then it says guess or estimate or something and you click okay

But the graph never technically crosses the x axis so the next point i choose will be the same sign as the previous point ?:O ERR:

technically 0 counts as a sign change though

God they let you use graphing calculators on tests? It's like, a requirement for all the math courses here but god help you if you want to use it on a test.

high schools and AP exams?
yes
college?
no. graphing calculators can be used to store cheatsheets and also communicate with other students even outside the building

None of the high school math courses here or the AP courses allow graphing calculators.

Serious? All of my AP math / physics course I've taken have REQUIRED graphing calculators. Sure they aren't usable on all the tests, but at least half or so allowed / required it derp.
and wtf. we can't use graphing calculators in college? ... shit.
OT: do the 2nd calc zero way. then do left, right, center thing. if that still gave you an error message, the graph doesn't touch the x axis and therefore has no zeroes.

No, I meant they require you to buy one. For like $100+. Then they won't let you use it for the whole year. They don't let you borrow from the school either, even though they have a class set.

I haven't used or touched my TI82 in years....
My college calc classes banned their use, and even had one class where NO calculators were allowed...that was interesting.

Oreally.. Our school has a class set and we use them pretty often lol.

Yeah back in highschool if they let me use calculators in math or physics courses... I would literally write pages worth of notes in to the calculator and save it to reference during exams.
Anyways, whether you can use a graphing calculator or not really doesnt matter if you're going to have to show your work. You can't exactly say "I found 0 here because the calculator showed it so".
