Amnesia: The Dark Descent is arguably one of the most scariest games available.
It's pure survival, and has some freaky atmosphere.

I can't do boring survival stuff, and scary just doesn't work on me. There must always be combat, because violence (in sufficient quantity) is the solution to every realistic problem.

The dev's first game involved combat in the form of swinging pickaxes at numerous bloody undead hound dogs. Not very entertaining or scary. Go play Dead Space or something similar since that seems to perk your interest.

That's true. Dead Space got very unexciting and sometimes annoying after a couple of hours.
