  If it helps, I got from r7 -> r1 Refine buying ores and spent about 2 mil, so if you've got cash to burn.
  
  Though, this was when prices were in stacks of:
  Iron: 3k
  Copper: 1k
  Gold/Myth: 4.5k
  and Silver 7-8k
  
  though I used metallurgy and got most of my silver ores that way. (these prices were Mari's a good half year back, well the silver at least).

  O-O. I don't know how you spent 2m on r7 - r1 when I've bought every single ore from rF to r3 (with enough to get to r2) and I've only spent around 1.4m or so. I'm buying my ores for around the same prices, so that doesn't make any sense to me.
  
  Anyways, back on topic. I'd say definitely keep going all the way to r1. You might want to do what the others said and just get to r2 with all of the mythril fails and then just rank PM, but seeing as you have low PM anyways, I don't see much point in that. Just shoot for r1 and you'll get there. It's taken me only 3 days for rF to r3 and I've only spent about two hours a day on it. It really isn't that much of a grind, but that's probably because I'm buying all of my ores.

  Worse comes to worst, there're Failure Potions.
  But that's NX and as such I wouldn't recommend that unless you really want to get just a bit more chance to fail mythril.
  
  I'd go with endless's recommended and try metal conversion.
  
  Hopefully you'd have a good % yourself or a friend who can convert for you!

  I'll just tell you now that I have only spent 200k IN TOTAL for r1 refining (ores, metallurgy sieve repairs, mythril dungeon passes, furnace usage)
  How I did that? Don't buy the ores. I usually tell myself the following.
  1) Ores are hella expensive
  2) Buying bot-gained ores is providing support for illegal use of third party programs on Mabinogi
  3) it's really not hard to find gold or silver due to the release of Sion's Hidden Mine and pickaxe upgrades
  
  If you must buy the ores, only buy silver and gold... iron and copper are out for obvious reasons, and mythril, you can mine it yourself easily at Mythril Mines

  Carpentry wood will further drop the sucess rate of old furnaces
  Fine firewood droped my mithrill sucess rate % by 3
