Kevin Clash -- the man known as the voice of Elmo -- has taken a leave of absence from Sesame Street in the wake of allegations he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy, allegations Clash adamantly denies.
Apparently they are tearing the kid's story apart. He never told anyone, reported anything, had any hospital visits with evidence of abuse, etc. His only evidence is a single email which everyone is saying was forged. Not to mention the fact that rather then getting a lawyer or going to the police, when he finally did report it (6 years later) he instead made his report to the Sesame Street execs.

I think 16 should be a legit age for consent.

You would think so. I know it's legal in my state at least.

Same in Jersey.
Did some searching, it's 18 in California where this happened.

Also, the guy said it was non-consentual, but he referred to it as a 'relationship', which people who deal with rape cases are tearing apart because they are saying they have NEVER heard of a real rape victim referring to what happened as a 'relationship'.

Please. 16 is recognized as legal in most places.
I expected more from the title.

16 is legal enough for all I care. Non-consensual? Send them to jail. Consented? Nothing to worry about, move along.

Yeah, even if it's not written it's generally regarded as an age of consent (yes by a lot of lawyers as well). And if they're able to pick those kinds of holes in the kids story, then I'm inclined to believe it's not entirely true.

[S]Why do I see more little boys involved in "sexual situations with older men"? I would think these older men would want girls but there are more cases with boys than with girls. Why?[/S]

I wonder the same thing every time I hear about one of these happening.

You say he reported it 6 years later, does that mean he was 10 when it happened and he's 16 today? Or he's 22 today?

They're either lying or actually do differentiate between real rape and "illegal sexual contacts". They're probably lying.
In fact 48% of the participants of a very extensive study on sex crimes conducted by
Michael C. Baurmann for the BKA in the 80s reported none or minimal damages, and did not self-declare as victims. Just saying. *cough*

It happened at 16 and he's 22 today.

Because of the "gay pedophile SO SCARY COMING AFTER YOUR CHILDRENS" factor. The truth of the matter is that most sexual abuse goes unreported and is performed by somebody close to the child and their family. Considering that heterosexual men make up 90% of the male population, I'd assume that more sexual abuse cases come from them than from gay men- they just aren't as reported on, probably.
