When a group of four men dressed up as superheroes went patrolling the streets of downtown Seattle at one o'clock in the morning, they found themselves face-to-face with a group of three men itching for a fight. And a fight is just what they got.
Video footage shows superheroes Westlake Drake, Bishop, Red Falcon, Midnight Jack, Phoenix Jones walking being followed by three men who continue to harass and insult them. It's unclear why the men have such a problem with the costumed capers, but they nevertheless are relentless in their heckling and provocation. Eventually the superheroes call the cops, and it's not until the police arrive that the trouble really begins.
With police standing by, Phoenix Jones agrees to fight one of the revved-up men. They shake hands and begin kicking and punching until Phoenix knocks the guy out and walks away from the fight. The superheroes leave the police to deal with the three men, who at this point are so riled up that they all want to fight.
In Seattle, there is a law that allows two willing parties to fight. The "mutual combat law" says that fighting may occur if both sides have mutually agreed to fight, and fighting stops when one person falls. Since the ‘superhero' and the civilian both knew about the law and agreed to fight, the police let them hash it out.
Is such a law a good idea?

Well... that's certainly interesting.
Edit: Alright, the person who wrote this article really sounds like she just came out of high school.. I'll just remove the opinion part of the article.

I think the law is a good idea. If both sides want to fight, then by all means, let them duke it out. It's their problem. As long as it doesn't hurt any one else and they both know what they are getting into why shouldn't it be allowed?
It lets them get it off their chest and allows them to solve their own problems.
Although I was interested in what the person's opinion was though just to see if it makes sense and I can see where she is coming from and can definitely see why she's against it. I don't agree with it completely though.

So long as the participants have some honour, I say this law is pretty darn awesome. It's how real men settle their differences! It's been so long since I kicked someone's ass. :D

I like such thing.. Through I personnaly wouldn't care if there was a law or not. If I want to fight someone, I get them to agree on a match agaisnt me and that's it. Once they agree I gain the temporary right to attack them and so do they gain such a right over me. Just one agreement is all I need.

That's well and all when you're still a kid or when you're a loser with, uh.. not much to lose. It's not so simple for responsible, respectable adults without such a law. ):

I've never been in a fight or had any interest in being in a fight. Don't see a point.

I find it a fairly good idea as long as both parties are responsible and fight fairly. If anything, I think a third party to monitor the fight would be a good idea as well. Good thing the cops were there as well because it could have turned into a brawl.
I'm more interested in how such a law passed in the first place.

Sounds like an older law that has remained intact over the years, except unlike many of those laws, this one is both awesome and not ridiculous.

As long as it really is mutual, I see no problem with it. If anything I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard about it before given I live in WA.

Fun fact, Alexander Hamilton died in a duel. If I recall, duels were common in the late 1700s of post colonial United States, and before that as well. Something about a fight between two agreeing parties, no matter how "barbaric" it might sound to some seems pretty elegant in a certain way.

^ I think it was kind of common for mutual fights in the past to occur with the use of deadly weapons back then.
