Download the technic launcher? The technic pack is my favourite. But if you get the technic launcher there's a few other mod packs you can choose from.

Or a better choice is
http://feed-the-beast.com/
WITH mod author approval, unlike tekkit/technic.
FTB will be updating to MC 1.4.5 within a few weeks, from what I've 'heard'.
Current list of mods in FTB:
Minecraft Forge
Chickenbones Core
NEI
Rei's Minimap
Advanced Machines
Buildcraft
Computer Craft
Ender Storage
Extra Bees
ExtraBiomes XL
Factorization
Forestry
ForgeIRC
Gregtech
Industrial Craft
Inventory Tweaks
Iron Chests
Advanced Solar Panels
GraviSuite
Modular Forcefield System
Mystcraft
Obsidian Pressure Plates
Portal Gun
Railcraft
Steve's Carts
Thermal Expansion
Twilight Forest
and soon Redpower2 Prerelease 6, and eventually (not any time soon), Equivalent Exchange 3
(I wasn't actually going to post, unless someone mentioned Technic :P)

No idea on the difference. But I really enjoyed tekkit. There's also a ton of videos on YouTube to watch as tutorials. Yogscastlalna did a lot of great videos and you can learn pretty easily.

Feed the beast is the best. I prefer it over tekkit

I'd personally rather make my own modpack. Most of the popular mods I'd prefer to keep out of my games, because they don't fit the setting.
Whatever you do, though, I'd recommend getting something with Mystcraft in it. You can make some pretty awesome structures using it. I mostly made an elaborate library in an eternally snowing, slow time, void world that I kept my other linking books in, for instance.
Plus, you can keep a following book with you as an emergency exit from things.
Constructing buildings is my favorite part of Minecraft. I always like them to be unusual. [S]Which is why it's frustrating when I play with friends and they just want plain box houses.[/S]

Mystcraft is fantastic. A+++

Also thanks for the input you guys gave me :) if you guys find any other cool packs or Mods like these mind sharing?

EDIT: okay now their downloaded and supposedly installed but I dont know how it works when I launch FTB it doesn't load Minecraft or anything is it just a download manager for Minecraft mods? do I install them Manually? or... like I'm so confused (currently perusing the forums to find any information I can) lol OTL
EDIT-2: Ok so I at least assume when I hit launch it's SUPPOSE to launch Minecraft but nothing loads... no idea why... no error no crash report ~_~ man...

On the 'MODPACKS' tab in the FTB Launcher, click on Edit and enter your user/pass. After that, clicking Launch will download the pack and start Minecraft afterwards.

BTW is starting to pale in comparison to the other mods (example: RedPower2 Pre6 adding vertical/horizontal windmills). I guess it's fine if you want to use very few mods with it, while still sort of blending in with vanilla MC. (incompatible with everything is definitely a suitable slogan)

More creeps n' wierdos still needs to be updated to 1.4.5, but keep an eye out for it, it's an amazing mod.

Honestly, the only reason I'd get RP2 is for the split blocks/poles/panels. Would make it easier to make nice-looking buildings.
Similar reason to why I like...IndustrialCraft, I think it was. There's stained glass.
