Wiki only states regular ore and ingots for training, does that mean that ore fragments (aside from unknown) are useless for training it?

ore fragments ARE the ones you need to train it. I'm guessing it's a translation failure...
Not much of a surprise, because DevCat made PLENTY of translation failures
by regular, I'd think they're Iron > Copper > Silver > Gold > Mythril?

Where it says "Successfully convert a [Insert] Ore", you can use either Ore or Ore Fragment.
I actually did your mistake where I trained those requirements using Barri Ores. I wasted so much time mining Barri... :fail:

hahaha yea use ore fragments. And also when it says convert into ore for the requirements, it's the same thing, you can convert into frags and you'll get xp for it.

Accualy in the higher ranks only ingot to ingot conversion counts as points.
