As NCSoft and their CEO appear unwilling to react to the earnest pleas of players to whose life this game has contributed in a way that befits a company that claims to strive to make people happy, City of Heroes, one of the most unique and interesting games that have been brought to the world, will breath its last breath tomorrow. A game that even after a decade in action still managed to reap modest economical benefits for its owners and social benefits for its tens of thousands of players. A game with such dedicated people behind it that a fan-based initiative managed to find close to 4000 people to protest in-game against the end.
With no earnest in-depth explanation given that does justice to the impact the demise of this game and its last developing studio has on many people, players and developers alike, 81 people have been laid off, and tens of thousands of people made unhappy, proving the executive management of NCSoft incapable of following their own corporate ideals, incapable of being decent people.
RIP Paragon Studios and City of Heroes.

People are even putting up memorial videos for their own characters.

Some people who didn't play this in a long while have reinstalled it for a last time too. I would have too, but I forgot my NCSoft Master account key and filling out the form and waiting would take too long on top of the download to be practical. :(

Isn't there another similar superhero game out now?
I'm sure if people want to play it that badly, a private server will be set up.

There are exactly two, neither
quite like it. I am currently downloading DC Universe Online to see if it's a worthy successor, but Champions Online... it's not bad, but... nah.

I think DCUO is the one I played. It wasn't for me, but then again most games I try aren't ._. Most people seemed to really like it.

Bleh. Played it a bit now. The character creation options suck a lot compared to CoH. It's like no fun whatsoever, just something you do to get it done. In CoH it was like building a town in Settlers 2. So engrossing.
This is what characters looked like out of the bat in CoH.

They're your babies. And now... they're dead.
But they lived a good life. :)
