Christmas Wishlist Help

  I was told to make a Christmas wishlist so I am thinking of upgrading a few things on my computer. I want to switch my current processor, add more ram, and maybe change my graphics card.
  
  I need suggestions/advice if these will work and are okay with my computer.

  1. Just as a heads up, you do know that you need a new motherboard for that CPU, right? The fastest CPU you can get new on it's own that is compatible is the Phenom Ii X4 965.
  
  2. Are you planning to do heavy overclocking? If not an Ivy Bridge series i5 would be better on the Intel side.
  
  3. I generally would recommend an AMD Vishera processor, which sacrifices some gaming performance for higher performance in multithreaded applications, and as such the majority of future applications. Though Intel would be faster for Mabinogi.

  5. Honestly in gaming you would get a lot more out of a Phenom II X4 and a $100 upgrade to your graphics card (the best of which right now would be a Radeon HD 7750) And in terms of value for playing any game out there and for future games, a Radeon HD 7850 is the best value right now at $175.

I'll definitely be adding more RAM though, but I'm still a little iffy if I should upgrade for a better processor and graphics card. Annnnd I really only just play Mabi so I don't really need anything too extreme since my computer can handle Mabi fine enough already.

  Yeah the Phenom II X4 is probably your best bet. As for your graphics card, you never know when there will be something new that comes along that you would enjoy playing, but otherwise your low-end PC is unable to handle it even when you don't care about the graphics. Though you may need a new power supply as well, so I would recommend the following; (also, after thought, you may need to replace the power supply for the upgrade, so I'm including that as well.)

  GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127666 (Powerful enough for your needs and running newer games at low resolutions, is energy efficient, and comes with a free game. A free game worth as much as the card after MIR I might add.)
  RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148543 (A Phenom II X4 965 only is able to use RAM at speeds up to 1333mhz. So it would be a waste to pay for higher-end RAM)

  You sure? It looks like it could probably fit... it'd be tightly packed and it's slightly hard to visualize, so a smaller card would be preferred, but yeah.
  
  While it's open, though, dust it off a bit. It's definitely not going to be running as well as it should otherwise. The fans in particular and some spots on the motherboard need some serious cleaning.

  and hmmm yah, i haven't cleaned it up in a while. i should totally get to cleaning that over the weekend

  Well, you could always buy a new case for ~$40 and put the parts you're using in that.
