I showed my dad the Sager, and he said it was inferior, until he saw the customization options. Then he said that I could see what I could do with it and then show him.
I know I can figure this out on my own (or maybe not), but if I had a limit of 1k, what custom build do you recommend?

Customization options;
1. 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core™ i7-3630QM (2.4GHz - 3.4GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache, 45W Max TDP)
2. IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
3. FREE - 750GB 7200RPM [Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache]
4. ~Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (unless you have a windows 7/8 disk at home)
If you already have an OS disk around;
4. 15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Sager Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut
The main reasons to go with a Sager over the Asus are because of;
-no bloatware
-better build quality
-Better cooling
-Better screens
-better touchpad
-more responsive keyboard
And over the Asus you selected;
-better CPU
-better graphics

Alright, thanks! Does the 15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Sager Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut really improve anything? It puts the price a bit over 1k, but I could possibly pay for it with a bit of money straight from my wallet.

tell me about it
don't ever expect to play anything for more than half an hour without having it plugged in

It's easier to see in sunlight and has better color quality.

Alright, I'll see if I can get it.

My dad actually likes the Asus laptop, but my mom doesn't because it "doesn't have a warranty" or some shit like that. I'm still willing to get the laptop from Best Buy, but I don't really care for Dell, I REALLY don't like the looks of Windows 8, and I don't want to spend an extra 100$ or so on a Windows 7 CD.
After trying to see what Windows 8 is like, I just feel very skeptical about it. It's interface looks too much like something I'd use on a smartphone or a tablet or something like that, and I prefer the old-fashioned desktop for a computer. I've also read some negative things about Windows 8, like things about the bad interface and holes in it's security. I'm also concerned about it's compatibility with the games I play now. Especially Minecraft, which the creator of (Notch) hates with a burning passion.
I'm not really willing to give up yet. If I got a shot at getting a decent gaming laptop that lets me play high-graphiced games in the peace of my own bedroom or in a car or anywhere, I want to make sure I choose it right.

This is the stance to take. I would recommend talking to your dad, and explain to him that the Sager is going to be both faster and higher quality than the Asus, given an i7 is significantly faster than an A10 on the CPU side, and a Geforce GT 650m is going to be a good bit faster than the 7730m in the Asus, which also will not crossfire with the A10, despite what he may think. The Sager furthermore has better construction, a better keyboard, a better mousepad, and a better screen as well.

vs;
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7730M.72678.0.html - Slightly lower performance than the Geforce 640m. Which makes the Radeon HD 7730m in the Asus two steps below the 650m in the Sager.
Sager also has one of the better warranties on the market, which is something you may want to talk to your mom about. They cover all shipping for three years, and in cases where damage falls under warranty they cover parts and labor for one year.

They also offer extended warranties up to 3 years, including accidental damage coverage.
As for windows 7 vs windows 8, windows 7 has the better GUI (in my, and probably your opinion) but doesn't load up as fast, which is one of the main benefits of W8.

If GUI and load speed are the main two differences between Windows 7 and Windows 8, I'll take my chances with Windows 8, but something tells me that's not all of the pros and cons of the two.
I'll try to explain this warranty issue the best I can to my mom, but do you mind if I ask something a bit more off-topic?
What's so great about GW2? I understand that with it being an MMORPG it's gonna need all the money it can get, and I understand and see and heard that it's a great game and I even wanted it at one point, but right now, while it does seem to do things different that I've been wanting to see be done different in MMORPGs for a very long time, it just doesn't feel like it has what I'm looking for in gameplay and game experience in general right now, and I can't convince myself to pay $60 on a game I may not even be able to play or may even get bored of. I'd much rather pay that much for Skyrim, a game that has much more of the freedom, variety and gameplay in general that I'm looking for right now, or just continue to play Minecraft but with shaders.
I guess after growing impatient and bored with the MMORPG genre and feeling left out of all the awesome and high-graphic games, I kind of lost interest in MMORPGs. Now I'd rather build a cool alchemy lab or homestead, ride a piggie, mine for resources, brew potions and fight hostile mobs in Minecraft or battle a dragon, meet companions with deph, craft armor and weapons and other shiz in Skyrim...Or shoot some people up in Blockland, TF2, or join a friend in a bit of Black Ops 2.

GW2 just had a "invite a friend" trial, sadly it ended I think on the 18th of last month. But if you don't think it's what you're really looking for, don't get it because everyone tells you to ^_^

I'd say go with windows 7 personally if you go with the Sager, as the GUI is more suited for gaming and production (in my opinion). Unless you have a habit of turning on / off your computer a good multiple times each day at least. The difference in boot times depend on the drive used, but Windows 8 usually cuts off 10-30 seconds off of boot time.
Honestly as far as GW2 goes, I would recommend putting your money towards some other games, such as Skyrim or the like. You can also of course try some of the other new free games out there of different genres, like Mechwarrior: Online if you're up for a thinking man's shooter. (with immense customization) I'm not usually one to put money on an uncertain thing. (though I did for MWO, because I'm a mechwarrior fan.)

Yeah, I'll wait before getting GW2, or may never get it. It's an incredible looking game that gets more things right, but right now, it's not worth the gamble. I may get it when I get the desire to play MMORPGs some more again or maybe when the game gets more content and/or features. On the other hand, like I said, I'm fairly interested in RaiderZ, which is free.
I have a feeling that this isn't over, but for now, thanks for the help, guys!
