One of the simple ways I've compromised between lineart-less and lineart is to make the lineart multiple colors. Though I haven't done actual lineart in a while, since most of my stuff's been on one layer lately, but it still gets the idea accross:

The skin has reddish-brown lines, the coat has really dark brown lines, the shirt has lighter gray lines, etc. It's a bit more work but it shouldn't be too hard. If your lineart is on a separate laer (and it looks like it is) you can just preserve the transparency on the layer and start coloring the lines themselves and see what you like best.
I was reading a tutorial on coloring, and colored lines was on there, but I can never figure out what color the lines should be.
