"Each day, hundreds of schoolchildren appear before courts in Texas charged with offences such as swearing, misbehaving on the school bus or getting in to a punch-up in the playground. Children have been arrested for possessing cigarettes, wearing "inappropriate" clothes and being late for school."

A fight I would assume.

As strange as it is, I think this is appropriate, even for children.
There's a reason why teenagers nowadays are getting unreasonable and out of control. It starts young; and I completely think it's acceptable to "cut the problem at its roots"

Idk i dont think so. After reading the article, it just seems ridiculous to me. I dont think a student should be arrested for minor misbehavior. In the case of a student threatening other students, getting in fights, or bringing weapons to school, then sure. But when a police officer breaks a girls arm because she didn't clean up crumbs after she dropped some food in the cafeteria, that's just over the top.

arresting them is just too much, just give them detention or no recess or maybe confiscating the items unless it involves death-threatening violence with each other.

IMO, having police in schools is a symptom of a degraded society and bad parenting.
Ironically, Texas is a state here people scream the loudest of having a draconian government system in place.

While I agree that teenagers today are out of control and that steps need to be taken to prevent the next generation from being even worse, I think this is a little much.
You have to remember this isn't some fake arrest/scare tactic. These children are actually being pulled out of school, handcuffed, put in the back of a police car and arrested. They are being given criminal records for things like throwing paper planes, swearing, and wearing perfume.

How did I ever survive in school without the safety of an armed officer ready to carry out at gunpoint the next girl he sees spraying perfume?
How do I know that's not really a bottle full of chlorine gas? Nobody is safe.

Agreed.
Hell schools are pretty much ran by the kids now because the administration always folds in to complaining parents.
Now this whole arresting and charging thing is going a bit far, but we do need more serious consequences for these asses in schools aside from a slap on the wrist that Mommy can fix by yelling at the principal.

I can see arresting them for stuff that makes sense, but perfume? Sure it smells horrible and dries up my throat but... actually I agree.

Uniformed School man, think about it. From K to 12
Kids will get used to dressing and presenting themselves formally, they dont have to deal with the latest fashion in school (school isnt a fashion show, we are there to learn), we know your uniform so we know which school you are from, easily identified as a student than some kid.
