  I think the reason that people check is that they're scared for their children really.
  I mean when you're in elementary school you don't learn anything about sex or whats wrong and whats right. I mean little kids don't know what a pedophile or molestation is. I mean when you're in Middle School and High School you have the common sense about how some people will take advantage of younger kids.

  I don't have children so I can't say I understand, but parental fears for their children's well being can lead them to take cautions beyond what they normally would do.
  
  I'd feel guilty about telling them to stay away from "that man" because he's a "bad person" or something, but I just might do it if I knew. Understandable.

  Same I don't have kids either but It would be devastating if I knew some random man took advantage of my child. I mean I know that on halloween sex offenders can't even hand out candy. I know Id feel somewhat bad saying "he's a bad man" but to be honest, they are cowards thinking that they can take advantage of someone whose younger and defenseless.

  staying away from the whole degrees of sexual offending thing which makes a website like that overkill (downloaded legit porn in a state where it's illegal? oops you're on the list now). I think the general concept is a good idea but needs a hell of a lot of work. Only the most serious offenders should get on there (rape/pedophiles), and even those people should only be on it for a predetermined period of time (maybe double their prison sentence or something), this way they can just move on with their lives after having lived in shame + jail for X period of time.
  
  If someone who murdered people is able to one day return to a normal life then so should a sex offender.

  Also I know people can get on the list for just being naked in public even if you're in your yard. But they usually will say that on the convictions. So yeah not everyone is bad but the description will tell you the reason.

  I wonder what percentage of people even look at that information.
  Most people probably just look at the map, identify the person, and leave it at that. Be it because they walked by their window with no pants on and a paranoid mommy saw it, or if they raped a kid, it's all the same to them. The way the system is now they may as well just paint a big "RAPIST" on the front of their house and get it over with. They should set it up like I mention in my previous post.

  Some of it just gets really sad though. Like i viewed a big city and it actually said the victims age was. Some of it was just sad.

  My city used to be part of the old city but it was separated because the old city got too big.
  Stupid site could not locate my house so they stuck it onto a school.
  
  The squares give you an ugly mug shot and the DOB for the person but only gives the technical term for the offense :|

  Reminds me of something I heard about when I guy boned a chick that he thought was 18 but she turned out to be 17 and he got convicted. He got lied to and now alot of his life is ruined.
