This seems like the best section, I guess. Might move it to news...
Anyway, here's a rough translation:

While performing a model change, such as power saving and miniaturization, as popular game hardware stationary, it is supported by the game fans over a long period of time. In addition, since the DVD player also has the ability, I also helped its spread. The worldwide cumulative sales of more than 50 million 100 million.

here's the source.
Basically, they're not making any more, and they've shipped out what they've made. Whatever's in stores now is it.

I thought they stopped making them as soon as they started selling PS3s...
Well, whatever then.

Yeeep. As long as they could make money off of PS2's, why would they make PS3's that can play PS2 games?
PS2's are still really, really popular in Japan, which is why they continued to make them.

I bought my PS3 at least like 3-4 years ago and it wasn't backwards compatible with PS2 games by then. I dunno, I don't see why they'd drop it ever. Backwards compatibility is a pretty big deal.

PS2s are generally a better value. PS3s were nice, but they didn't do so well and weren't as strong as the previous ones. Can definitely see how they'd still be in demand (whereas no one would want an original Xbox). It still just surprises me.

The PS2 is the best selling console of all time, you'll be able to find one even after they stop producing them.
