[ ç´« ] Murasaki Art [ 2013 ]

  I feel like I grew a lot as an artist in 2012. I don't mean in ways people can see, necessarily, though I hope that my improvement was noticeable. I think that, more than anything, 2012 gave me a lot of lessons about myself as a person, and as an artist. I've slowly started to figure out just what my style is, what I like about it, and what I can improve. I feel like if things keep going this well, I may begin to feel more and more satisfied with my work, and come up with a style that people can recognize. Here's to 2013. May I learn and grow stronger as an artist, and as a person.
  
  With that out of the way:
  I'll do my best to post here on a regular basis. One of the things I need to improve on is drawing more often, so we'll see how I do with that! Each image will be its own post, unless I post a bunch of new images all at once.

  You should try doing something different.
  From what I can tell in your art, you love to draw long haired characters a lot, the same characters also have darker color swatches, and they all seem to have eyes that similair.
  I suggest using websites that can give you color swatches to work with and experiment! ovo

  I am definitely going to be drawing something different, but not for this image. I was actually thinking of using this website since a lot of the palettes make me feel like drawing:

  The image above is a hybrid of Merrow and Kaon, which is mostly Merrow with Kaon's colors, and a bit of the Portia wig elements thrown in to avoid making this nothing but a palette swap.

  I really like your art except for the chibi/deformed style ones. I don't know why but it looks off, even for a chibi. [Though the one with the cat rider is actually quite nice.]
  
  I also like the way you draw lips in particular, but you should probably try to vary it some more - most of the ones you've drawn have half parted lips, which while attractive isn't something you want to get stuck on I think.
  
  My favorite has to be the one with the purple hair. I love it when hair is wild and curvy like that. Curves in general are awesome. The progress is definitely visible.

  I have it bookmarked since the first time I ran into it. Was too scared I'd never be able to find it again. Haha. I have a lot of things planned for 2013. Hopefully I can do at least a good chunk of them.

  I like some chibis, but not all of them. Still working that style out. It might help if I don't shade them the same way I shade some of the bigger pieces, but I'm not sure yet.
  
  I was looking at my lips a few days ago and noticed the exact same thing, so that's something I definitely want to work on. Hopefully the result isn't terrifying.

  It's meant to be relatively quick. Done on one layer, except for the blue background, which I left just in case I wanted to change it.

  I feel like a broken record because I say things like "amazing" over and over again to the point where it loses meaning, but there are really no words for how wonderful and well, amazing your artwork is.

  And in case anyone's curious...
  For the Merron, the sketch was on a similar level, if not messier, and I basically start coloring at this stage when I do this on one layer, and then just start detailing. I will do base colors on the layer underneath the sketch first, but once those are done, the layers are merged and I work on what is now a color+sketch layer, so it looks like...

  You might or might not be able to tell where the sketch still kind of shows throw and blends into the rest of the picture. I like the blended feel which is why I started doing these on one layer a while back. It's just more fun for me that way. >_>
