Should I bother with light armor proficiency?

Debating its usefulness because I have a royal cadet heavy beret (which is light armor, go figure). Pretty much everything useful later on is heavy or plate. Could save myself the 390AP to get to rankB and invest in something else. I do intend on getting to 60+, so is there any reason for me to rank up light armor proficiency?

Light armor builds are typically gimmick Att sets that may have some use mixed with plate (like 3 Raider's/2 Apo), but in general don't bother with ranking Light Armor Prof. Outside of Att sets, it's only purpose is so you can fuse different things and for the 70 sets pants (they all have light pants for some reason).

By the time you'll be able to be effective with an Att set, you should have ample AP and experience with the game to know that it's viable for you.

I don't know about it being a waste, if you are at a sufficient level (both actual in-game level and skill leve), having an att-oriented light plate set might not be so much a gimmick as it is a viable option. For example, Vella has a set combo that offers her 751 STR with all light-armor pieces; given the ability to throw Enthusiastic (or Force, if you don't want to sacrifice as much def) on top of said pieces, the additional STR and the extra 1.4k att is no laughing matter; its foil is that throwing Enthu on all pieces will leave you with a mere 400 def on the set.

Well, I call it a gimmick because it's not something I'd give up ~3k Def for. Having a balanced plate set offers a lot of room for learning bosses, offsetting lag, and carrying you through a bad day of playing. Att sets are really if you feel confident in your playing, which usually means soloing (where the boss is predictable and lag is nonexistant). It has it's uses of course, as I still get 7.5k Def in my WB/F set, but I want to repeat a point from my first post.

If you're at the in-game and skill level which you could perform well in an Att set, chances are you've played your character extensively and are probably already done ranking most core skills. At that point, you'll know that you want to try it for yourself and my input isn't relevant anymore.

The point is you could have 10K+ def and 1.5K less attack rather than ~1K-2K defense. It's just not worth it.

And I see using Enthusiastic over Force as half-assing it. That balance is really nice. If you're going to do it at all, you might as well go all the way.
