According to new X/Y tv commercial the games are not entirely 3D, they are "2D games with some 3D gameplay" which based upon the demos they have been letting people play shows that only the battles will be in 3D and the rest of the game will be normal 2D, which I suppose is good news if you hate 3D.
I was kind of looking forward to an all 3D Pokemon game myself.
So the 3D effect turns off in the environments and stuff, which is all rendered in 3D anyway?

I don't know the exact details of what is and isn't 3D. All I know is that the commercial says it's a 2D game with some 3D thrown in, which I'm assuming is the battles based on what we've seen as those are quite obviously in 3D.

I actually got a chance to play it at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS 2013)
The stereoscopic 3D effect, the slider thing on the right side of the 3DS is only present in battles.
The whole game is rendered in 3D though, like no 2D sprites at all in the environments

Ok, what is wrong with Nintendo?
Only partial 3D in a 3DS game. Might aswell make it a DS game, with bonus support for 3DS systems (like 3D battles, better effects, fills the whole top screen, etc.) :l

DS is phased out though. BW2 was the last first party game for the DS if i recall right.
Also i rarely use the 3D effects anyway due to feeling like a gimmick.

Not all games used the 3D feature all the time.

Some games actually work pretty nicely in 3D. Luigi's Mansion and 3DLand, for instance.
I personally like that the game doesn't really focus too much on 3D, but that it is still for the 3DS. It's about time for a new look, I think. And there wouldn't be as many new features if the game was for a normal DS.

I heard that Brock may be coming back for the X/Y anime. So if that happens it might be worth watching.

Brock is coming back for Cilan's Black and White special. I doubt he will be back for X and Y since Clemont(a gym leader), his sister, and Serena(game protag) seem to be the ones tagging along with Ash this time.

As long as there is no Cilan. I will be thankful for that.

3D is difficult to use to be honest. You have to have the screen tipped in just right way or the image becomes blurry. Nevermind the fact that it's hard on the eyes.

Depends on how its done I think.
3D is actually ok if its not trying to pop out at you. If it stays "under" the plastic its pretty ok. Whenever something tries to pop out, like its coming out of the screen its painful though. Like the 3D photos or some game titles are a pain to look at, literally.

No it isn't.
It depends on the developer on how intense the 3D is.
You can look at a game like Etrian Odyssey IV which makes a good use of the 3DS' 3D, then you can look at Pushmo or Super Mario 3D Land, or Mario and Luigi: Dream Team and say they're just as intensive as Etrian Odyssey when they're actually light on 3D.
