Don't see an issue with subscription when most people readily pay a bajillion $ for cash shop stuff in most f2p games.
THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.
I can't believe how pretentious f2p gamers get about how much money they're not paying, only to realize one day that they've literally poured buckets of money away over the years.
Playing various f2p games, I can tell you that I am absolutely sick of that suffocating feeling where the game constantly reminds you every 5 minutes that your experience could be better if you shelled out money. And there is no limit to this feeling, as they specifically design the games to nag at your subconscious desire to pay to win.
Having some some subscription games, I haven't felt this, ever. All the features you'd pay for individually for a sum price of "lots of money" is just wrapped up in a nice package of a low monthly fee.
I know some people are an exception. I know I was. I barely paid my f2p game services anything. But a recent thread here on nation that calculates how much money you've spent on mabinogi alone shows that many of us were surprised to find they've dropped thousands of dollars without even realizing it.
Free to play games feel like incomplete games. You get 75% of the game, and you have to constantly shell out money to buy each individual 1% until you feel the remaining 25% is filled. Because these microtransactions usually are limited in duration or use, you will end up buying more the next month. Its a nasty model. One that I try my best to avoid now.
