  For game design, your portfolio is far more important than your degree. Everything about the field can be learned via the net. Even if you can't find the money for college, take the time to make something awesome and you may get into the industry after all.
  
  Are you interested in any particular sort of design just yet? If you check out internship requirements, especially from companies like Riot, you can get an idea of what you might want to start working on.
