It's probably because there are people out there who go, "OMG HOT" over the "I hate my life" guy in a love story. I watched it expecting it to be good because I heard so many people cried watching it, and finished it only because I hate watching an anime and never finishing it :/

It was so slow and boring.
5 Centimeters per second was slow but it's better than Clannad.

I guess the crying was for when Fuuko or w.e her name is was going to disappear.
But the reappearing ruined that.

Yes, and yes. For anyone that supported the original pairing of TomoyaXNagisa, the story and ending would probably keep you immersed. Fuuko's innocent and cute, the disappearance held high hopes of a deeper storyline developing. I.E. The characters remember bits and pieces and realize that life could end at any moment and they should do everything possible before the end. Of course, you know, her coming back just like that and no one learning a damn thing made me rage. From that point on, everything seemed so consistent and predictably boring.

I could really say the same thing about watching schoolgirls talk about their daily lives.
You can see where I'm going with that, right? =\

this.
Different stroke for different folks, personally I dislike both. Theres only 1 romance anime I've seen and enjoyed and that was lovely complex, and I found it for be more comedy then romance.

For some reason, I remember Clannad being funny to me.

Romance and dramas moved at a better pace and had better characters than this series.

Clannad's anime had serious pacing issues. And, they spent too much time on Fuuko and Kotomi's story arcs. Either way, the first 14 or something episodes were the best out of the first and second seasons. Everything after neglected every other character.
Visual Novel was much better. Plus, it had Kappei.
All Key anime so far has pacing issues. Angel Beats is included. But 5 Centimeters Per Second was slow? It seemed fine for me.
Anyway, either way, it was Tomoya's interpretation of his boring life was what made me interested. I love boring lives.

Nice...
You know how Key does their stories: they introduce heartwarming characters and present them in nice situations...
and they suddenly twist the plot to immerse the audience in many different emotions
One of my friends also dropped Clannad from episode 1, but loved the series after I finally convinced him to watch the entire After Story.

Hellz yeah, there was a lot of comedy, including many scenes where Tomoya plays a prank on Sunohara
