Let's just share about what we think is our purpose in playing Mabinogi, and the problems it brings.
For me, I understand that no matter how much time and money I invested in the game, it's purely for entertainment. My purpose in life is not Mabinogi and it is something else out there. Yet I can't see the day when I finally graduate from Mabinogi. To me, Mabinogi is yet another thing I can look forward to in life, since the content excites.
Just the other day, someone asked what my current CP in the game was and when he heard it, asked me to buck up. My answer to him is that I am playing this game AND I do not want to be played by this game.
At the same time, this purpose brings some problems.
There are various types of players in the game. As friends, I don't give a care, but as guildmates, it is difficult to find a balance. The lower level players will feel inferior to you, the weekly-rebirth low levels will eventually catch up (which I don't really care if they are good people) which also causes some higher-levels to constantly be level-hungry as well.
The problems are not so bad for me ever since I spent a lot less time in the game and more time doing the things that mattered more to me. To me, above level 40 (preferably 50) and exploration 18 is all I demand of my character per rebirth. To some other people, it can be level 70 but I don't really care. At this point I think my character is established enough although I might be the weakest member of the team despite being one of the highest levels.
So, how about you?

my purpose, is basically to have fun
the only reason I "trained" anything is to clear the obstacles that are keeping me from "having fun" and also never liked seeing arrogant pricks on mabi so I try to be somewhat strong enough to make them eat their words if the occasion arrises
and the main reason I stay on now is my friends (as little as I feel I actually have)
seriously it's like 1 or 4 people I ever spend my time with on mabi anymore, I don't even go to Dunbarton cause it's gotten to that point where it's crowded and unpleasant
oh right problems, problems.. well I've made a bunch of enemies and as far as I know much more than friends now cause alot of my friends sorta "drifted away"

I used to be all about the grind and competition with some of my choice Mabi friends.
Now though it's more of me just quite literally making my own character and i guess identity in the game. I have a great deal of things coming up on my plate that I may even end up temporarily leaving the game so I've stopped trying to be the elite and trying to just be me which has never been elite just well traveled if you get my drift. I still spend far too much on this game but it's my only source of entertainment anymore outside of randomly going out for a bit or watching my movies at home so I don't mind as much. Better than me getting wasted every weekend spending a hundred bucks on booze like I did before in my mind.
My purpose is just to play with my good mate and now online bro, a few friends and playing the game the way i used to play it. Sure i'm low level and rank F virtually everything again but it's all good because I already have an arsenal of high level characters if i ever want to go into that elitist atmosphere. Play to have fun not play to be the best.

My purpose in playing Mabi is mostly fun, but I like being social sometimes as well.
I've met a lot of great friends thanks to this game.
The problems? I've sort of been addicted to this game before (Broke the addiction now).
Didn't really spend much time on school or homework, just wanted to play games.

I just want to be able to do as much as my guildies in dungeons.
Although that's not really possible since a lot of them weekly rb and are already double my total ._.

Agreed. If you don't agree, the Guren SEITEN will go to radiate you all.
Seriously, it does stave off boredom. Great game helps ^^!

My purpose in mabi is to play with my friends
No real problems with mabi per say, but i used to have a problem with video games sapping all my time and being too shy to make friends.
Now its fine though, cause im addicted to anime more now, and i figured out theres an anime club at my school, so both problems are gone at the same time.

My purpose of playing Mabi is to have fun, like everyone; but I also have another reason to play Mabi, and that's to be able to do everything and be the "fantasy" me. I just like Mabi because it's offers this feeling of "freedom" where you can explore a world... sorta like that dream I had in my head since I was 10 =p
The problems it brings is that I get so into Mabi that I forget about the most important stuff, and that's myself. Sometimes I'll neglect my own health for the sake of going on and I sometimes forget about my own family and my own problems.

I play so I can whine about ragequitting later on, as well. :l
And for friends, because they always help when your real life friends are drunk as a skunk.

I wanna play with my friends in-guild xD
Mostly assist people since I find that fun. xD
Though I end up needing a lot of help from them as well, like leveling or ranking certain skills.
But I can make up to them by healing them through mission like SCC and... like last night, Baol Final (which is still difficult as all get-out!)
I just like healing people in games like these xD
And there's plenty getting hurt all the time. xD
