  Think of homestead fragments like dimes
  
  and the actual homestead stones (the purple ones) like dollars.
  
  1 dollar = 10 dimes
  
  1 stone = 10 fragments
  
  DevCat did not plan in advance so the counter does not show the fragments and just rounds the amount (the actual value is still recorded, I am basing this off what the last guy said, I am not sure of the actual mechanics)
  
  If there's a weekly tax of 1 homestead fragment, it will deduct 0.1 homestead stones.
  
  For example if you had 10 stones, and the weekly tax is 1 homestead stone and 5 homestead fragments (for a cow), you should have 8.5 remaining but the counter will display 8.
  
  [Edit]Basically if you're paying $1.50 for soda but have $2 you get half a dollar back but it's not like someone is going to rip a dollar bill in half and give it to you and treat it as 50 cents. They will either give you 2 quarters, 5 dimes, 10 nickles or if they're an ass 50 pennies.
  
  Summary: Homestead stones and fragments are the same type of currency. You don't need to worry about it. Just make sure you have enough homestead stones rounded up to pay the weekly fee.
