Skip the quest and you lose out on reward AP, journal achievement and possibly a title? There's really no benefit for skipping it if you already have trans. Might as well do it one day when you're stronger or need extra AP.
For the homestead, I believe you have to make the house before the mansion. Since you're making the mansion anyways, you might as well collect the materials for the mansion. If you can't make it just save it for later when you have the house.
Yes you can use the Bag 8x10 with other item bags (like the kaito bag). According to the wiki (which may or may not be accurate) "Despite the description, it no longer requires service to use". I personally don't use it, since I am lazy and don't really want to pay for such a huge gold sink unless I am going to gathering large quantities of materials (it's like 3.5K/day). Up to you to check by throwing 100K at it.
