lol TLC are you trying to deny the bias against infant females in china
because if you are
you're fucking hilarious
(yes, it's gotten better since the 80's, but look at the male/female ratio in China and pretty much all of East Asia - definitely no bias there, right?)

I don't blame you for thinking it's worse than it is though, media seem to want to keep people's view on China in 80's.

The estimated rate in China in 2011 (and 2013) is 1.06.
That's not normal.
Here's the CIA World Factbook breakdown by age:
at birth: 1.12 male(s)/female
0-14 years: 1.17 male(s)/female
15-24 years: 1.11 male(s)/female
25-54 years: 1.05 male(s)/female
55-64 years: 1.03 male(s)/female
65 years and over: 0.92 male(s)/female
total population: 1.06 male(s)/female (2013 est.)
Ideally, the ratio should be 0.98-1.01. Not 1.06, or 1.12, or fucking 1.17. ONE POINT ONE SEVEN. That's almost 6 males for 5 females. 20% more males than females. 20% more males without wives, meaning more girls (from other countries) being raped or trafficked or far worse.
Even if you don't believe me, the numbers don't lie, and it's not some stupid ignorant American bullshit they put out to lull us into a false sense of security. It's fine to be skeptical of the media, but you're one of those fools that doesn't believe anything they hear. Who's the uninformed and ignorant person now?

To me the difference is not that big, but if you feel it is, there really isn't much I can do to convince you otherwise. I mean I would like you to think well of my country, but in the end, the only person I can change is myself. Personally I was raised in a gender equal environment, but I guess that doesn't mean much, just as your dad's conduct doesn't represent the entire US police force's conduct.

I think pretty highly of China and most of East Asia, actually, because the economic and some of the social development in the past 50 years is utterly astonishing and mind-blowing. But just like many other countries (and the United States is not exempt from this), they still have a shitty record of human rights.
I do apologize for sounding so harsh in my last post. China has come far, but there is always more to be done.

It's perfectly fine, different cultures have different standards. I am glad you can respect the differences even though it's not up to par with western standard yet.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily call them 'Western standards', although our democratic ideals do manage to worm their way into pretty much every country.
Really, I think there's a sliding scale of freedoms, from basic to 'universal' to 'Western'. I don't really know what the world would be like if every country was like the U.S. (it'd be awful), but what I'm trying to get at is that there are basic rights and freedoms that every person (particularly women and children) are entitled to, and that there are many countries that still don't meet those.
You know what I'm sayin'?
China's getting there, man.

I do get it, and yeah, I would like to see gender equality in China also.
