As long as you do something and have a direction by the time you're 20, you still have a chance at a decent living.
Completely disagree. Depends on what you're looking at though. A lot of people don't find a direction and "make it" until at least 40 and often towards the end of their lives. But that's mainly with business-related things. Not so common with art.
If you're good enough at anything you will make it regardless of how old you are, and age is not really a relevant factor in 99% of jobs. It's enough to stop someone from getting into the NBA, but it won't stop an artist.

Forgot you can manipulate people in areas who have no idea what they're hiring people for.
It really depends on the type of work and how skillful you are at it if it involves any sort of noteworthy amount of creativity, IMO. If you can produce a better product than anyone else it would be a smart decision to hire you.
