Can only be interpreted as an insult (unless for whatever reason you choose to ignore what he said).
How is that an insult? Is a common psychological occurrence among human beings, which happens subconsciously, hence my mentioning of it might make some people start to think things a tad more~
And if I did happen to insult you or anyone, then apologies, but you responding in such a passive-aggressive behavior and with this lack of respect isn't helping.
I never intend to insult, I never intend to lack the respect to anyone, and if it ever happens it can be assured that it was completely unintentional and simply a nudge to explain it to me should suffice.
promotes activity
I believe its the opposite! Because of the reasons I presented beforehand.
It is extremely common for people to feel it's "easier"/"quicker" to reply to an existing thread than to make a new one.
even the only mod that was a mod when the original rules were up. D:
Hey D: . All the rules ever said was about necro being allowed in Guides and Bean Rua (and stickies because super obvious reasons). Which is still how it works.
I don't remember any other special mentions.
. If you really can't say any on-topic content in 30 days, then the conversation is already dead.
New users join the site and then there's also non-active members, they might be browsing happily, and a 30 old days thread CAN EASILY be on a 3rd to 5th page, which is common for some people to browse back there (so I don't agree with you that 30 days is a "looooong time"), find something of interest and add their opinion to it. And if the reply is relevant to a still relevant topic, then I just don't see the issue.
I don't think removing the rule would suddently make a huge influx of old thread pop back in the front page.
Of course not, necroposting isn't that common in the first place. But 8 out of 10 times I close a thread because of necro, it feels like I'm FORBIDDING DISCUSSION on a DISCUSSION FORUM.
Also, it has happened to me before that I took a look at a report of necro, and it's been hours and I'm the first mod to see it, and I happen to see discussion again in a necroed thread, why should I have to close that? These people were happily discussing stuff.
How can I know that when we do get to a necro quickly, discussion wasn't going to happily and successfully ensue.
And if not:
If the thread was going to be dead for good it'd go back to where it was in due time.
This would happen.
Now said new member probably doesn't feel like making a new thread just to give his/her opinion is that important, therefore we might potentially be missing on a good occasion to spark new conversation about a subject.
But it's not always about this new member, another person that could have missed that thread before (another new member, or ANYONE who cares) will reply again.
I have seen it many times (here and other forums) where a new reply is made on an oldish-thread and some people will bring it back to life again, and not particularly the person that actually made the necro.
It's also common for a thread to be sort-of ignored, few replies.. i.e not "hot", but when it is brought back to life, it becomes "hot", why? I don't know, maybe some reply actually brought more interest to the topic at hand, or for some reason a lot of people missed it before, it does happen.
_
Finally, I'm not suggesting the rule be removed completely, I hope that was not how my thread was perceived.
But simply to make it more lax.
There's those necro that are just "cool!", "I agree" or whatevs~ That are just derpy.
