  So I went back to the RMV today and the witch I had last time was 2 seats down, but otherwise it was fabulous. They weren't exactly friendly or patient but overall things were moving much faster and smoothly.
  
  Also, there was a lot less of the illegal immigrant bullshit.

  [SPOILER="LONG"]The last time I went was a nightmare. I went on a Thursday (extended hours), but I had originally planned on going in the middle of vacation week...but I went to the RMV in Watertown and I'm sure y'all remember what was going on then.
  
  First mistake: going to Watertown.
  
  Second mistake: going during a Thursday. You might have an extra hour to get shit done, but there were a hell of a lot more people by the same logic. The line went halfway down the mall.
  
  So I had pre-filled my permit application online AND made an appointment, which would have theoretically guaranteed no wait. I did have to wait in line to get my number and turn in my application, but since I had done my app before I got there I was given a special letter. Each letter stands for a different kind of service, so they usually only use a few different letters. So I wait...and wait...(and I'm not sitting down, there was no room left)...and I wait for 30+ minutes, noticing that they were only calling the same 4 or 5 letters (license, normal permit test, ID renewal, etc etc.)...nowheres near mine. They call one Z, which looks hopefully because my letter was Y. Eventually, I sneak up to the old lady at the front desk (somehow skipping the line!) after 45 minutes or so and politely mention that my letter had not been called in 45 minutes - or at all - that I had a 0 minute wait time on my ticket (I didn't expect a 0 minute wait but I sure didn't expect a 45 minute wait), and that I had been guaranteed to be seen when I came in. She just gave me a "it'll pop up when it pops up, it's all random," and as soon as I go back to my dad they call my number. Assholes.
  
  Mistake 3 (that I eventually avoided): You have to complain to someone to get what you need.
  
  So I get this woman that just spent the whole time we were there dealing with a non-English speaking couple - a middle aged woman, her husband, her college-aged son, and what looked like his daughter...who was sitting in a Target shopping cart. The woman was trying to get a permit or an ID, but her son was the only one who spoke any sort of English. My dad took it a step further and insinuated that she probably wasn't even a citizen, but that's him being a racist. Anyways...the lady just kinda passed her along, but rejected my application because my previous permit was expired and therefore could not be used as identification.
  
  Mistake 4 (that I fell victim to): EXPIRED THINGS ARE NOT VALID IDENTIFICATION, EVEN IF THEY JUST EXPIRED AND YOU CAN'T GET A NEW PERMIT UNLESS YOUR OLD ONE EXPIRES (?_? it makes no sense)
  
  Then she went and apparently "appealed" my rejection to someone we couldn't see, laughing about how I actually had the nerve to try using a recently (as in, <1 week) expired permit. She comes back with a rejection to my appeal and at this point completely cuts me out of the conversation.
  
  Her (to my dad): How old is she?
  Him: She's 18.
  Her: Is she really 18?
  Him: Of course she is. She's had that permit for 2 years and now it's expired.
  (This is a redundant question for her to ask - minimum permit age is 16 and thus, if my permit was expired I HAD to be over 18).
  Her: Where was she born?
  Him: Boston
  Her: Can you go get another copy of her birth certificate at city hall and bring it back here?
  Him: Today?
  Her: Yes, today. We close at 5.
  Him: But it's 4:30 now. How the hell are we supposed to get to freakin' Dorchester and back in 30 minutes (in rush hour traffic, it would take 1hr+ just to get one way)? You can't just stroll in and stroll out with a birth certificate.
  Her: But you have her Social Security card...
  Him: *rant about how illegals and foreigners can get whatever the fuck they want but poor white people like us can't get shit* "That lady before us had her birth certificate written on a napkin! How can you just let those people get by you?"
  Her, verbatim: Oh, PLEASE...that's a whole other issue I don't wanna get into.
  Him: *yelling about how she is just "perpetuating the cycle of bureaucratic bullshit" and giving them a free pass*
  Her: I have no control over that.
  Him: I'm a cop and this is bullshit.
  
  Meanwhile, as soon as I saw her reach for the rejection sheet I burst into tears and I'm still standing there sobbing my eyes out maybe 5 or 10 minutes later.
  
  Her: Don't cry, crying gets you nothin'.
  
  Eventually, the lady has the decency to get us a supervisor's mark on my ticket - it guarantees, FOR REAL, that the next time we visit that branch we can just flash that ticket and skip all lines and all waits. I have to go back to the old lady at the desk, but I guess she got off early and I get this middle aged woman. I'm still sniffy so I quietly explain to her that the woman sent me here to get a supervisor's mark, but she cuts me off with a "stand in line."
  
  Me: But ma'am, I've been in line all day. She said I didn't have to-
  Her: YOU HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. I CAN'T MAKE EXCEPTIONS (even though a supervisor's mark is an exception)
  
  so I pretty much just lose it again and have to do the walk of shame past everyone to the end of the line (which is only 15 or so people long, since the branch is closing soon)
  
  meanwhile, my dad chats it up with some tough looking Cajun guy and continues to espouse his frustrations/racist bullshit and it turns out this dude is the assistant supervisor, which praise jesus my dad talked to him since the supervisor had also gone home (ergo I would not be able to get the supervisor's mark). So this guy (who actually LISTENS HOLY SHIT) waved the lady away once I got up, personally marked my ticket, gave us his card with his hours and told us that the ticket never expires and we should come when he's there, because he'd take care of everything. He was probably the only decent person we ran into that day, but I still haven't gone back because I just don't have the time (seriously, my dad had to take 1/2 a day off of work to get me there) and what little confidence I had in my permit-test taking abilities is shattered. I studied and actually read the damn manual twice, and I didn't even get to take it. (fortunately, I also saved $30)

  That place is fucking...ugh. I haven't even gotten my ID which I needed to get years ago because that place is such a shithole.
  But on the brightside it's only a 20-30 minute walk for me.

  pretty much...but for some reason the wait wasn't too bad. the last time I went, I went on a thursday and got there at the same time (2:30).
  
  my ticket said 30 minute wait and it wasn't actually a lie...aka it was a miracle

  There's little difference, but in Massachusetts there is no Department of Motor Vehicles. It's all handled by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

  I come from a family that calls people out, so I would have called him out, because drama is fun and snobby attitudes piss me off very easily.
  My first time at the DMV I was with my mom. the line was so large that we were standing outside for quite a long time. Then some steroid pumped black guy cut, and my mommy went to yell at him. Then the security came and took him to the back of the line. Everyone clapped for her, but I sorta wanted to bash my face into a wall.

  The DMV I went to was pretty easy...
  People stood in line, got what they needed/numbers and then went to sit down or stay standing. Never had to stand for 30 minutes. And we had a TV to watch.
