Short Version: Is there any way I can reset my internet connection completely once an MTU change leads to a dynamic IP address disconnecting me from the internet entirely? ._.
Loonngg Explanation:
It's to my understanding that a dynamic IP address causes complications with MTU changes and internet connecting. I've been changing my MTU for the past few days away from the default 1500 value since I like the way it works on my computer. Specifically, I believe it disconnects me from the internet as soon as that dynamic IP address changes, since Comcast apparently does that for my household internet service.
I already made 3 batch files that I can automatically click and change my MTU back and forth in (from 128 to 368 to 1500), so I can potentially switch back to the 1500 value once I log out, but I'm afraid that I'll log out one night after staying up late and forget to do this, leading to an internet disconnection. I don't know if I can change my MTU back to 1500 without an internet connection once I'm disconnected and I'm a little uneasy about factory resetting my computer twice in 24 hours just to get my MTU back if I can't do that in one sitting.
I really want to be able to use the MTU change settings since it reduces my lag a little in-game and I love less lag, but I want to know if there's a way I can pull myself out of a mess that explodes if I suddenly forget to change my MTU back one late night. Is there any way I can do this or should I stay away from MTU changes for this reason exclusively? Thanks much in advance.
(P.S.: I don't care if you have different opinions on MTU usage, sorry, since I'm going to try to use it for my own list of reasons just as you may or may not like it for your own. :x)

Who told you that dynamic IP affects mtu, or vice versa? Your IP generally does not change unless your router requests a new one (either by you doing it manually or by it resetting/renewing.)
Also your last line just makes me want to berate you about MTU usage, even though I have no opinion on the matter one way or another, simply because you had to make it seem like this is a controversial topic :llama_hideeat:

No, you're not going to permanently mess up your internet and need to reinstall your OS by changing the MTU.
You can change it whenever you want. If you experience problems with it at a lower value, just change it back.
You're being paranoid.

Just leave your MTU alone at the computer level.
On your router your MTU should either be 1500 for pretty much any type of internet service, or 1492 for services using PPoE (like DSL).
You should not touch it beyond that, there's no real reason to.

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: Yes, you can change your MTU while disconnected since it has to do with your network/IPv4 settings/interface, not the connection you're actively connected to. If your internet were to disconnect, you could simply revert your MTU. As for changing your MTU in game, just change channels/relog for the settings to apply.

Thank you very much.[/SIZE]
-Valkyrio: I saw a comment in the MTU guide where Science said something about disconnection issues with dynamic IP addresses which I didn't read until after my computer had already crashed from the internet. According to Comcast I'm using a dynamic IP address, but I don't know why. I saw a few people in the guide arguing over whether or not MTU should be used, so it seemed to me like it was a problem. I'm sorry, I don't know much about this topic. x.x
-RMorichika: I appreciate your reality check over my paranoia, haha. I really did want to know for sure though, since I did crash my computer by accident again as a result of me blindly "tinkering" with things.
-Osayidan: There's less skill lag when I game with lower MTUs. :/ I have already noted that 48 is too low, since none of my programs work, but 128 is a beast compared to 1500 when I weapon switch and load skills/heal. Your concern is much appreciated, so I'll use 1500 when I'm not gaming.
