Is it just me or has the quality of the story gone down for one piece? I didn't like the mermaid island arc nor the punk hazard arc... Am I alone in this? What do you guys think of recent One Piece?

I like it. I read the manga though, don't know where you are with the anime.
It seems to be getting a lot more serious in terms of what they're getting involved with.

I don't watch anime, only read manga and I read it weekly. I can't quite express what I felt wrong about the new arcs, but it seems different from Alabasta, or Water Seven... I had a few tear jerk moments in those arcs. Maybe it's because Luffy is stronger? And villains seem to be struggling against them and not the other way around? The new dressrosa arc is confusing me.

Mermaid island and punk hazard seemed right, the enemies were supposed to struggle against them. They just finished 2 years of training.
I suspect the difficulty curve is just going to increase from here on, especially if you saw the last chapter, and how we hardly know anything about joker/flamingo or the strong looking guys at his tournament.

Yeah the new arc seems to be going great, although I probably need to read some of it because I don't know why the heck Marines are there or what did Deflamingo do.

I didn't really like the last few "settings", but I still didn't mind it though. They're not as grand-scale as the pre-training arc.

Only 62 episodes into this, can't wait until the shift in art quality hate watching this stuff in 480p tbh.
