Why would you quit over engineering?
It's a grind thing. More than any other life skill - it's not based on random chance, like weaving, it doesn't require rare drops, like tailoring (and weaving), and the ingredients are all from hillwen (With the exception of shyllien, which are easy to make even at rF magic craft) so you rarely ever even have to leave the mine. Unlike handicraft where you use items from three other life skills.
On top of that...a lot of people will be getting it to r1 this month. It's not something that will be profitable simply because guns will flood the market.
Why you would quit over engineering is beyond me. It's easier than some other life skills.
