SERIOUSLY THIS MAP IS JUST GARBAGE.
I don't know what it is about this part of the game that just ticks me off every time I play through it.
The maps seem agonizingly long,
the monsters are ugly and dumb as hell,
no early raid / dumb sidequests,
no big fuzzy animal to love and stab,
God forbid I could continue all day.
MAYBE I JUST HATE THE WAY IT LOOKS.
I thought the double level bridge part in hollow frost was dumb and annoying,
BUT
Screw Ainle.

Ainle is the most beautiful map.
Wait until you get to the prairie maps if you think these are agonizingly long and ugly. Hoarfrost Hollow was actually kinda ugly too.

Sorrry it was just necessary that I gripe about it! I usually drop the game on so many character around this part of the story.

Don't apologize, you're allowed to have opinions.
Ainle is when the levelling takes a jump in difficulty, I think. It could be that as well.

Oh? I rather love Ainle. I've fallen in love with its design, and especially its buildings. The mobs I don't mind as soon as I get to the vampires. I rather love slaughtering them en masse. I'm always annoyed whenever my characters outgrow it...

Ainle isn't much fun but I find it aesthetically alright. Most of the maps are pretty basic.

The vampires are some of the most obnoxious enemies to fight in the game though. They're not quite at the level of suicide bombers or dogs, but they're getting there.
A lunging stab that stuns people for a long time, long ranged fireballs that do passive damage... it really can get bad if you get surrounded and they stunlock you. Even just getting hit once is frustrating. They look neat though.

Yeah, we need to fight in beach front properties and nearby bus stops so after we brutally murder the dungeon boss we can take the bus home.

It is quite frustrating to get hit by those, yes, but don't 90% of mobs in the game stagger you the same way when they hit you?
I can deal with it with the vampires just because I enjoy fighting them.

Vampires have more annoying attack patterns though. Everything else is generally slow, has no range, etc. If you get too close to them they can also claw you too, keep that in mind.
