She upgraded and enchanted that armor, I'm sure it came with standard npc dur (24?)
Defensive is r9, and rock is r7, and on top of that I think the upgrade path she chose is -5 or more dur...so yea...

Only use PD Armor if you make triple the money you spend repairing it from the dungeon, so you can keep 2/3 for profit. While it cuts costs and makes soloing easier, 10k a point is not something you have to pay. Seriously, just go with a 45 dura pauldron or even a light melka for cheap costs. You can enchant them with Oak tree, Darkness, etc., While having a Val with an enchant that adds +Repair costs is hell.
I spent 10 mil. trying to make Avenger Pauldrons and they all failed, so I had to use my val out of broke-ness... and it made me even more broke.
Bottom line is, don't spend the money if you don't have to. If you've played up til here and are fine without PD, don't get it. You may get too used to it...
if you have the money, it's a luxury.

I've been upgrading my Stitched Long Robe armor... It's the only armor I like (looks-wise) and it has more durability than my clothes. I only plan on wearing it in dungeons but for now I'm wearing it all the time so that it will prof v.v; If I'm going to be wearing armor, it should at least be slightly more useful than base. Maybe an enchant later on.
And then..I also have a bone marine set for explosions. That's pretty much it. I prefer clothing, but I DO have the armors. And the armor I do wear most of the time I wear because I think it's pretty. /fail.
Then again, I don't have the repair costs of PD armors x.e

In my opinion, Passive Defense in armor is only necessary for me when PvPing. In dungeons, I would just use a normal upgraded armor and use a PD shield.

passive defense can save you, but it not mandatory. It also helps alot if you are the laggy type, and repairs aren't that expensive as long as you don't wear it outside of dungeon/sm (i lose 1-2 dura/rebirth). Enchant is more of a priority than passive defense tough, for example: don't use a imp valencia instead of a avenger light melka. but having a good enchanted valencia/dustin could be the optimal point if you prefer heavy armor over light armor.
about the rose plate, she did the -10 dura upgrade, and it seems to have had 4 base protection, unless there is new upgrades for heavy armor on jp.

I keep one of each myself at some point i'll make my "end game" armor sets but that's awhile off yet.
End game is when you're so pro that you never get hit, and therefore don't need defense or passive defense.
And you use clothing for the bonus accessory enchants and higher damage (since Heavy Armor fails at damage). Or maybe clothing.
On a more feasible note, in massive multi-aggro situations I often end up dying because passive defense activates and resets my knockback counter. It turns 3 hit knockback + 1 hit knockdown into something like: 2 hits -ping- 1 hit -ping- 3 hits /death.
Its better to rely on auto-deadly than passive defense, IMO. That, and aim for that pro end game where hits don't exist.

If you rarely get hit, why are you using PD armor anyway?

I suggest getting a high dura armor such as a Pauldron or Melka, much cheaper and just as good.
You want it to last as long as you can, withstanding enchant fails/upgrades and making repair fails less costly @_@
PD is helpful, but the getting the best def/pro is more important with the -dura upgrades. And the fact that PD is only sometimes while def etc. is always
If you really want it for the PD then go ahead :thumb:

PD isn't necessary at all imo. A lot of people I know get along without ever using ping, including me :D. I don't even use ping in PvP and I'm still half decent at it. It's only really needed if you like PvP or if you get hit often/can't control aggro completely. Otherwise, its pretty useless.

For the odd times when you do.
I guess most people who use PD try to tank hits all day, which ties into Justified's conception of end game. I was suggesting that people who use PD armor should avoid that mentality, if not because it will fail against very strong monsters, because it is costly, repair-wise and pot-wise.
I play low HP so life is always chill.
