14,980 Yen ~$150 for the console + 8GB memory card and a white DS3

I'd take this over the 2DS.

That's way more interesting to me than a 2/3DS because I hate playing on those shitty little screens. This is probably the only way to get me to buy a mobile console because I don't sit around enough while traveling to really use them otherwise. Maybe if I rode a bus 30+ minutes everyday I'd begin to see just a little potential in them, but I still think I'd rather take in the scenery.
Hopefully it becomes a standard for future handhelds.
I'll think about it because I've wanted one for a certain game. Won't put my money into one right now though as I'm prioritizing other stuff.

This is not a mobile handheld.
You can't play it on the go, you need a T.V.
If you need a T.V. that just ruins the whole point of handhelds.

At first I was going to make a Xbone TV reference. Then I stopped because this made fun of itself.
Now it just reminds me of that Wii Mini.
Pointless banter aside, what is it exactly trying to advertise? The commercial really loses me quite frequently.

Not to me.
It's a "mobile console" in the sense that it was designed to play mobile games, but yeah, it plays them on the TV. I guess it's a little misleading to call it that in the same way it could be misleading to call the Super Gameboy a mobile console.

But I've never cared for technicalities at all, whatsoever. I loved the Super Gameboy and I'd love this thing.

Considering the vita's high resolution and incredibly wide library of games (though most of the desirable games come straight from the psn), I don't think this is a bad deal for someone like myself.

That thing looks like an iPod.

I heard it also can play ps4 games through remote play, but that'd also require a ps4...

No plans for release in the West.

This is pretty neat actually, playing Vita games, classics, and remote play for Playstation 4? No hassle of moving the console around or anything like that, this seems great actually. Can't say the same about the new Vita models, the lack of OLED screen is probably the biggest drawback.

They can easily make 3DS/DS games playable on the WiiU, but that would make nintendo lose money.

But the thing is not all Vita games are compatible. If the game requires/has touch screen controls it automatically wont work.

Yup

Really? Well it was just announced for Japan. Plus not that it matters since the Vita isn't region locked.

Well classics can be played on any modern Sony console, and honestly remote play isn't that big of a feature. :V
Also the removal of OLED was necessary in the 2000. No OLED no mura effect which people were complaining about.

In a roundtable discussion with journalists, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said there are currently no plans to bring the upcoming Sony PlayStation Vita TV to the US or European markets. Nikkei (via: Endgadget) reported House saying, “SCE will release the PS Vita TV in Japan Nov 14, 2013, and in other countries after that. The reason why it will be launched in Japan earlier than in other countries is that there is no leading company in Japan’s video streaming market. The company is planning to sell the PS Vita TV in China, South Korea, etc, but not in the US and European market at this point.â€

Using a LCD panel instead of an OLED panel doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a downgrade. OLED panels have drawbacks--they look worse in sunlight, they can burn in, they degrade over time, and they don't always have the best overall image quality. High quality LCD panels can look better than an OLED display, as seen in the fancier smartphones out there.
I'm kind of tempted to buy a Vita because the hardware is good, but I don't care enough about the games to buy them, so meh... unless there was some uber amazing game that I really wanted (which there isn't). Plus I have way too many unplayed Steam games. Q_Q
