Catherine, First HD Title in the SMT: Persona Series

  Atlus Japan announced a new project from the Persona team in this week’s issue of Famitsu. Catherine is an action/adventure game with a horror taste intended for adults.
  
  
  
  The game’s premise appears to be about a man who wakes up every night from his dreams. That’s what the text in pink tells us. An info box says Catherine is in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
  
  
  
  Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 4, is the producer/director of Catherine. Shigenori Soejima is the character designer and Shoji Meguro is the game’s composer.

  Clever Siliconera readers recognized the main character of Catherine because he’s in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable! The female protagonist runs into Vincent who mentions his “problems”, more specifically nightmares.
  
  
  
  Vincent, a 32 year old salaryman lacking ambition, is charmed by Catherine, a 22 year old mysterious beauty. At night, Vincent is plagued by nightmares where he climbs a never ending staircase. He can wake up if he reaches the top, but it appears there is a connection between the dream world and the real world.
  
  
  
  There’s a rumor that if you fall in the dream you die in real life. The same page shows a screenshot with a newscaster reporting on the death of a young man. This screenshot has English text that with Japanese subtitles on top. In an interview with Famitsu, character artist Shigenori Soejima says the game raw terror and some scenes are intended to startle adults.
  
  
  
  Catherine, according to a fold out poster of the girl eating a pizza, is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation in “2010 winter.” The official website is: http://cathy.atlus.co.jp/.

  The topic title is misleading. It's too soon to say that Catherine is actually part of the SMT series, let alone Persona. It's just being developed by the Persona team and happens to have a character from P3P (although, it's been pointed out that Catherine bears a striking resemblance to the Priestess full moon boss).

  listen to Arus. We don't even know if it's part of the SMT franchise at all. And just because Vincent appears in P3P isn't enough.
  
  Story plot reminds me of the arcade storyline of Melty Blood. Also helps that the ones causing the dreams are succubi...

  Don't accuse me of flaming, but why does pretty much everything in Japan have to be porn? They can mask it with pretty terms like "erotica" and "adult" but in the end it's porn.

  Not pretty much everything. Just in recent years, it seems that way.
  
  And whoo, just noticed Shoji Meguro is going to be the composer! I'll get the game just for that even if it turns out to suck.

  Seems like of a spin-off.
  I doubt it will come out to the US like the other great games like Shin Megami Tensei if...(The Shin Megami Tensei game that spawned the person series), Kyūyaku Megami Tensei, Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2. ;_;
