  So, as some may know, Tumblr had a massive ovary explosion on Monday as a result of the first episode of Abusive Vampire Harem airing. Err... I mean Diabolik Lovers. A vampire romance reverse harem based off of a set of Japanese Drama CDs and a Visual Novel.
  
  The main male cast consists of the six Sakamaki brothers, who all share the same father, but different mothers (someone's pimpin'... or at least, he was...):

  Being a girl who prefers a good vampire series with do-S vampires over porn any day (and a fan of this series... dohoho...) I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard that this was getting an anime adaptation. I am not disappointed with the first episode, and I hope that I am not disappointed with the further episodes.
  
  Something I wanted to point out, though, is that I'm seeing a lot of people on tumblr (who, by the sound of things, aren't familiar with the series), are expecting that this series is going to turn out like Vampire Knight. Having been a fan of both of the two, I'd just like to say that no, they are actually quite different.

  Tumblr had better hold onto that box of tampons, because it looks like tomorrow's episode is gonna feature Laito.
  
  Also, a funny little detail about Ayato and Laito is that the game says that Ayato is the youngest triplet and Laito the oldest, but the anime states the opposite, that Ayato is the oldest triplet and Laito the younger.

  I tried, man. I tried. I'll give pretty much everything a chance. But, I had to quit halfway through the second episode... and really, the only reason I got there is because I thought it would get better. Nope.
  
  It's painful to watch, the characters are annoying, and I just don't see it going anywhere? I mean, what is the plot even? All I see is "let me suck your blood", "you're mine", "let me suck your blood". Also 2rapey4me.
  
  It just sucks because the art is beautiful, and if it and if the actual story/characters weren't so bad, I might actually finished the season, but holy shit man, it's unbearable.

  It's certainly not for everybody, no. It does have a plot, albeit not a very interesting one for people who find the gratuitous amounts of (effectively) rape to be distracting. The characters all have short background stories, but they do explain why they act the way that they do... excluding the main character, who is typical and a bit annoying. (If I was in her situation, I'd behave quite differently around the brothers, but I suppose that anybody who isn't a typical otome protagonist would...) A lot of people have problems with the borderline rape and abuse. The series, however, from my perspective is emphasizing a couple of facts that I've seen ignored in my constant observation of adaptations of the concept of vampires. The brutality, lack of "humanity" (but still being "human" in a sense), the possessiveness, the "borders", and others. And yes. They all had bad parents and were raised poorly. They all grew up screwed up in the head, and perhaps that's one of the "charms" of the series, if you would agree to call it that.

  This is the sort of anime I like and dislike at the same time. I like effed up characters who are pychopathic/bad. But I think the "rape" like thing is going a bit too far. There is something as being evil and doing it the cool way or being evil and doing it like a mindless idiot, such as most of the characters in this anime.
  
  However, to give a better opinion on this, I would have to wait till more episodes come out.

  The plot's actually starting if you watch episode 7. I'll admit, it's not terribly interesting to people who aren't into the genre, but I like it.

  The problem is that portrayals of things, even in fantasy, can have an impact on the way people thing. Like guys who've called normal-sized women fat because they're not as skinny as comic book heroines who have waists of a woman who's been corseted. The fact that it's fantasy doesn't really give it an excuse to portray an issue poorly. Issues should be handled responsibly, no matter what the setting. Like Ouran. That show had the stereotypes all over the place but it was using them to prove a point and essentially making fun of itself and the tropes that tend to happen in its own genre. Stories have a message, and some messages are just not...right.
  
  EDIT: So I gave this show a chance and uh...
  It's almost as if Edward Cullen was split into many, even more flat characters.
  
  The show's formula is basically scaring the shit out of this poor girl, and just when you start to get a hint of something interesting, we go back to guys taking turns being an asshole to her.
  
  Basically...
  
  Girl gets scared but tries to stand her ground>Guy's being an asshole>Girl tries not to get bitten >Gets bitten anyway> Guy goes "wow you taste so sweet!" > possible hint of some maybe interesting but mostly cliche backstory (maybe)>Guy either is more of an asshole or leaves> If guy leaves, next asshole arrives>repeat whatever.
  
  At least the girl isn't like Bella Swan. Haha.
