If i knew more about what the hell determines alchemic damage on cylinders, i would recommend them, but since my info on that topic is low, i won't.

It would make some sense to start early with an ego and then switch later should they eventually uncap levels for ego weapons.
Even if it would be an lolrofl type weapon (like some gathering knife). My suggestion will be ego bows for the extended range.
Egos are pretty efficient for people who don't want to depend on repair protection potions for equipment. It costs almost nothing to feed it if you always get gems or something.

The ego Ringbow (87-155 damage fully capped) is the second best bow in the game next to Bhafel Hunter, so if bows are your thing, that one is certainly worth it. At this point though, it would take you a long time to get it to that damage point to make it worth using... An r6 Demonic Infinite bow or r6 HLB would be far easier to make and would yield similar performance.

That's in terms of dmg though. With range, it's always better to consider utility and dmg. Since having both would be near impossible (elemental and range reforge) ego bows would be nice since it's easier to get elementals and the boosted range.
