using my tv as a monitor, good or bad idea?

Never heard of this.
I know people don't recommend TVs as monitor for their response time, but they don't damage TVs.

Some GPU cards allow audio through HDMI.
But you can buy some cheap 3.5mm to 3.5mm and connect it to you TV if your TV allows that or just buy cheap speakers or use your headphone.

The TV should adjust to your computer's size.
Every HDTV I've used adjusted to whatever resolution I used.

Actually, it's the other way around. HDTVs are typically 720p or 1080p. Those are standard resolutions and your video card will switch to the correct one depending on the monitor/TV it's connected to. The physical size doesn't matter, the resolution is still the same. The pixels just get bigger.

The comment about damaging TVs was probably based on the fact that TVs in Europe run on 50 Hz. If the graphics card is set to the typical 60 Hz output but the monitor only supports 50, it could do something weird. I doubt it would still get damaged, though...

I'll probably make another pc build thread once I'm ready to buy parts (probably around black Friday)
