Like what is the difference between me with my puppet gear compared to me with like a cressida wear effecnt and hot cowboy and all that other stuff. Not including a cylinder. Is it miniscule or major?

Alch is mainly focused on alch es cress wear only adds 10% or so So its up to you

well it is two different class sets, a puppet set you would be focused on maxing dmg while an alch set would focus around as sun said, alch es's and cress enhancement. you;ll notice a damage difference when you have fully alch focus enchanted cress wear/flamerider (if using flame burst and/or too poor to afford cress wear like me:fail3:) while using alchemy skills compared to a puppet max set

it's not really reliant on gear since the enlightenment, but I suggest investing in a cressida set(Watercannon and Flameburst) for that +15% overall boost.

It used to be a LOT but that's been reduced with the stat rework. You'll still gain damage of course, but the difference isn't as large.

I personally wouldn't touch the masteries until later on, solely due to Watercannon's and Flameburst's damage formula.

Are they required to get master talent?

No idea, I don't think so.
